    A truly unforgettable experience

An incredible experience from start to finish. We got lucky with the weather given that we were there during the rainy season in September (we only had 1 day of rain in the whole week). AND we were the only two people on this tour with our Guide José Gonzalez so we had lots of time to ask questions and learn about all the beautiful surroundings. The tour started off in the gardens where we learnt about all the plants, herbs, fruits and flowers and how they all play a role in the delicate ecosystem of the rainforest. Jose was a mindful of information about everything and we also chatted about lots of other things Costa Rican too! The juicing of the sugar cane was a ton of fun and we got to drink it right away too. Not to mention the grinding of the cocoa beans into a paste and making our own hot chocolate. This was truly magical. We finished off the tour with a tasty lunch and some really delicious coffee in a space surrounded by birdsong, sunshine + the sounds of frogs in the tropical rainforest. Heaven.

Response from the operator: Dear Laela, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your beautiful experience with us! We’re thrilled to hear that your visit to Arenal Vida Campesina—and especially the Combo Cultural tour—was such a memorable one. It sounds like you had a perfect day, and we’re so glad the weather cooperated during your stay! Having a private tour with José must have made it even more special. He’ll be delighted to hear how much you appreciated his knowledge, enthusiasm, and the time spent exploring the gardens and the traditions behind coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane. We’re happy to know you enjoyed every part of the tour—from the hands-on experiences to the peaceful setting of our farm during lunch. Thank you again for visiting and for your kind words. We hope to welcome you back someday! Pura Vida!!

Great tour guide! Interesting tour and grounds.

Dylan was our tour guide. Very knowledgeable of the plants and animals as we walked around the grounds. We took the tour on the very last day of August during the rainy season so it was just us. He kept it informational, yet intimate and let us ask many questions. At the end he sat down with us for a snack and coffee, which allowed more conversation about the property etc. He had very good English!

Response from the operator: Dear Tracy, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Dylan. He's a valued member of our team and takes great pride in sharing his knowledge of the local plants, animals, and culture. It's wonderful to know that the rainy season gave you a more intimate experience, and that you felt comfortable asking questions and connecting with him throughout the tour. We're especially glad you appreciated the coffee and snack moment—those quiet conversations are often the most meaningful, and they truly reflect the heart of what we aim to offer at Arenal Vida Campesina. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Dylan. Thank you again for visiting us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future! Warm regards, The Arenal Vida Campesina Team

Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.

How much does Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity cost?

    +

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.

Is Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Costa Rican Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane Activity start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?

    +

On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, White Water Rafting Class II and III, Authentic Coffee and Chocolate Tour at North Fields. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Fortuna?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

    +
