Barracuda!

We had a great time! We only caught 3 fish, but that’s how fishing goes some days. The crew was very nice and tried their hardest to find us fish the entire time we were out there. When we got back they prepared a meal for us with the fish we caught and it was delicious! We would definitely do this adventure again!!

Very disappointed

We went on a week long cruise to Western Carribean. Costa Maya was set to be the highlight as we booked through Viator for sport fishing at the Nacional Beach Club. My entire family was excited. These panga (boats) are very small. We met our crew of three on the beach and set off. My family of four was aboard. The swells of the ocean were about 4 feet. We started trolling and just kept going head on into the swells. The motion was intolerable. Before I knew it, my husband lurched over the side and started throwing up. He ended up throwing up 8 times and by then, my 16 yr old son was about to throw up. I was doing all I could to concentrate on the horizon to not get sick. When my husband realized my son was sick as well, he told the crew to take us back. We were on the water 30 min max. Not a bite, couldn't even really try. These boats are just too small and there was wind that made the ocean bad. I was so disappointed, so was my family. I need to note that my husband had a motion sickness patch on and we all took dramamine before we got on board. The crew should not have taken us out in those swells. $350 gone.

Best experience

We had such a good experience. We were able to catch 3 barracuda’s. This was a dream experience for my son who loves fishing. The guide Ruiz was great and made sure we were able to catch some fish.

Meh.

Didn’t realize we would just be trolling the entire trip - rode around until they had a bite and then reeled it in. Very little interaction with the guides, when we got back the older guide stood and demanded a tip, and just handed us the two barracuda we caught. After reading reviews saying the restaurant would cook it for us, we walked up and tried to figure out what to do. Thankfully the very nice owner came out and said the guides normally clean them and cut them into fillets - this was never offered. He also said they were really busy as they were full for the day - but he kindly had the chef prepare us ceviche and 4 fish dinners. Honestly, we wouldn’t do this trip again, the boat ride was rough, it’s just a metal seat, and the lack of any interaction was odd. We would however get a day pass for National Beach Club - the owner, Evan, and his daughter were AMAZING!! His daughter was our waitress, and was hustling around the entire time. We went to leave and I asked her how to get a taxi and she stopped what she was doing, walked outside, down the block and got us a taxi - totally above and beyond!

We weren’t able to go due...

We weren’t able to go due to the weather, but everyone was very nice and accommodating. Will definitely book again when we come back.

Costa Maya Sport Fishing: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Costa Maya.

How much does Costa Maya Sport Fishing cost?

+

Prices start at $350 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Costa Maya usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Costa Maya Sport Fishing take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Costa Maya is not rushed.

Is Costa Maya Sport Fishing worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 75 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Costa Maya, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Costa Maya Sport Fishing?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Costa Maya Sport Fishing suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Costa Maya Sport Fishing?

+

Around 26 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Costa Maya can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Costa Maya and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Costa Maya Sport Fishing start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Costa Maya within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Costa Maya?

+

On Outty we rank every Costa Maya experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Costa Maya Shore Excursion Chacchoben Day Trip, Chacchoben & Bacalar Combo Excursion Costa Maya, Bacalar – 7 Colors Lagoon Excursión Costa Maya. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Costa Maya?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Costa Maya?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
