Best Cooking Class in Delhi – Authentic Indian Home Cooking Experience with a Local Family

We had one of the best cooking experiences in Delhi from the very beginning. We were welcomed with so much warmth and hospitality, and the experience immediately felt personal and authentic. We started by getting to know each other over a cup of traditional Indian chai before beginning the hands-on cooking class. Everything was extremely well organized, and it is clear that the hosts know exactly what they are doing. With more than 11 years of experience, this is far more than a standard tourist cooking class. We had the opportunity to learn from a fourth-generation Indian cook, with traditional recipes and cooking knowledge passed down through generations. What made this Delhi cooking class especially unique for me was the authenticity. We prepared a complete Indian meal, including delicious curries, different types of Indian breads, and dessert. The recipes, techniques, stories, and knowledge shared throughout the class made the experience feel like we were genuinely learning about Indian food and culture rather than simply following a tourist activity. Another major reason I chose this experience was the setting. The cooking class takes place in an actual Indian home with a local family in Delhi, which creates a completely different atmosphere from commercial cooking studios. Even if you visit Delhi many times, it can be difficult to find an experience that feels this genuinely local, personal, and non-commercial. And the food was absolutely amazing! Everything we prepared tasted incredible, and it was very satisfying to sit down and enjoy the meal we had cooked together. I also really enjoyed learning about JD and his famous cookbook, Art of Indian Cooking: 65 Recipes, Spices, Souls and Stories. The cookbook is beautiful and feels like a premium collection of authentic Indian recipes and culinary stories. I will definitely be buying a copy because these are the kinds of traditional recipes and techniques that can be passed down and enjoyed for generations. For me, this was not just a cooking class in Delhi — it was a genuine cultural experience, a chance to meet a local family, learn authentic Indian home cooking, understand the stories behind the food, and enjoy a fantastic meal together. Honestly, I would have happily paid more for this experience. It was worth every penny. If you are looking for an authentic Indian cooking class in Delhi, especially one that takes you into a real Indian home and gives you a meaningful local food experience, I highly recommend this one. They also offer other authentic experiences and interesting things to do in Delhi, which I would love to try on a future visit.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. Welcoming you into our home and starting the day with a cup of traditional chai was a genuine pleasure for our family. It means a lot to hear that you appreciated the personal, non-commercial setting. Passing down our fourth-generation recipes and sharing the history behind our food is exactly why we started doing this over 11 years ago. I am very glad you enjoyed the full Indian meal we prepared together and that the curries, breads, and dessert turned out amazing. Sitting down to eat what we just cooked and sharing stories is always the best part of the day. Thank you also for the very kind words about the cookbook. Whenever you are ready to grab a copy to recreate those recipes at home, you can easily find it on Amazon by searching for the exact title: Art Of Indian Cooking - 65 Recipes of Spices, Stories & Soul. If you want to keep in touch with our kitchen, or if you want to see the local food walks we run for your next visit, you can find us on Instagram at @Art of Indian Cooking and @Food Tours Delhi. Safe travels, and we would love to host you again the next time you are in Delhi!

Among top 3 things to do in Delhi

Wowww definitively one of my New Delhi highlights. We found the chef Jandeep online and once at his house found out he is s celebrity in India! The conversation, the cooking lesson, everything was super great, but the food... oh God, state of the art cuisine, done with our own hands, supervised of course by this master chef. We will repeat when back in Delhi in 2027. Very important: the picture of the chef's parents hanging in the living room, stare at it for a few minutes, you will never see such a loving couple like this again, their smiles, their vibe, no doubt where Jandeep got his great energy from.

Response from the operator: I am absolutely blown away by this beautiful review—thank you from the bottom of my heart! Hearing that our time together was one of the highlights of your trip to New Delhi means the world to me. You are far too kind with the "celebrity" title! I am simply a passionate chef who loves sharing my family's culinary heritage, and seeing you create such incredible, state-of-the-art cuisine with your own hands was a joy to watch. You were complete naturals in the kitchen! But what touches me the most is your beautiful observation about the photograph of my parents in our living room. That picture is my most treasured possession. Their endless love, warmth, and hospitality are the exact foundations of everything I do. Knowing that you could feel their incredible energy and genuine vibe echoing through our home is the greatest, most meaningful compliment I could ever receive. Until we reunite in 2027, I hope you keep practicing those dishes! You can always stay connected with our family recipes and behind-the-scenes kitchen moments on Instagram @ Art of Indian Cooking. And when you do return to Delhi, we will have to take your culinary skills out to the bustling streets to explore our safe, handpicked local food spots (you can see what those adventures look like on Insta at Food Tours Delhi). On behalf of the whole Explore Real India team, thank you for bringing such wonderful energy, laughter, and heart into our home. We are already counting down the days until we get to cook with you again!

The Best Way to Experience Old Delhi Likea Local BeWay to Experience Old Delhi Like a Local

From the moment we met JD and the Explore Real India team, we felt completely at ease. Old Delhi can be chaotic and overwhelming, but having a local guide made all the difference. Everyone seemed to know our host, so we never felt hassled and could simply enjoy the experience. This wasn’t just a food tour—it was a complete Old Delhi experience. We visited the Jain Temple, explored the famous Chandni Chowk Spice Market, and even got special access inside the Sikh Gurdwara Mega Kitchen, where we helped roll rotis. That was something we’ll never forget. Every food stop was clean and personally selected by the Explore Real India team. We loved the chole bhature, kachori, jalebi, chai, and the best lassi we had in India. If you’re looking for the best Old Delhi food tour with culture, history, temples, and authentic street food, this is the one I would recommend without hesitation.

Response from the operator: Old Delhi can definitely feel like a maze at first, so making sure you felt comfortable, safe, and right at home from start to finish is always our top goal. Getting to share those special moments—like rolling rotis in the community kitchen and walking through the vibrant lanes of Chandni Chowk—with open-minded, wonderful guests like you is why we love doing what we do. And I’m so glad you loved the street food! That piping hot chole bhature, crispy jalebis, and chilled lassi are pure comfort food. For anyone following along who wants a little visual taste of the hidden food spots and cultural stops we visit on our walks, we post our daily adventures on Instagram at Food Tours Delhi. Whenever you decide to make your way back to Delhi, you’ll have to drop by our home kitchen so we can teach you how to cook some of those dishes and blend your own spices from scratch! (You can take a peek at our family recipes on Insta under Art of Indian Cooking). On behalf of the whole Explore Real India team, thank you again for your warm recommendation and fantastic company. Safe travels wherever your journey leads next!

The Best Indian Cooking Class in Delhi – An Authentic Local Family Food Experience!

This was honestly one of the highlights of my entire trip to India. I joined a private Delhi cooking class with a local family, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed like family. We prepared so many different Indian dishes during the class, and my goodness, every single dish was absolutely delicious. This was some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted. The flavors, spices, and traditional cooking techniques were incredible. Our host, JD, comes from a third-generation restaurant family. His father ran a restaurant for more than 70 years, and you can truly taste the history and experience in their recipes. Every dish has a story, and learning about the traditions behind the food made this cooking class in Delhi even more special. If you are visiting Delhi, I highly recommend taking time out for this authentic Indian cooking experience. Do not skip it! It is much more than just a cooking class — it is a chance to connect with a local family, understand Indian culture, and enjoy some of the most amazing homemade Indian food. Thank you, Explore Real India, for arranging such a memorable experience. They offer many other experiences and private tours as well. I also joined their food tours, Chai Master Class, and they arranged my Taj Mahal trip from Delhi, and everything was organized perfectly. This Delhi cooking class was definitely one of the best experiences of my India journey. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Indian food, local culture, and a truly unforgettable experience.

Response from the operator: Reading this incredible review brought tears of joy to my eyes thank you so much! It was an absolute honor to welcome you into our family home. Sharing my father's 70-year restaurant legacy, our generational recipes, and the rich stories behind every spice with passionate guests like you is the greatest privilege of what we do. My family and I are beyond thrilled to hear that the dishes we cooked together were among the best Indian food you've ever had! To keep sharing those family recipes and home-cooked moments with us, you can always catch what we're whipping up on Insta @ Art of Indian Cooking. It was also such a pleasure having you join us across so many of our other experiences—from sipping brewed chai together in our Chai Master Class to tasting street food delicacies on our culinary walks (you can relive those street-level memories on Insta at Food Tours Delhi!). On behalf of my family and the entire Explore Real India team, thank you for trusting us with so many highlights of your journey, including your Taj Mahal visit. You came as a guest, but you left as family! We wish you all the happiness and delicious home-cooked meals ahead, and we cannot wait to welcome you back home to Delhi whenever you return. Warm regards!

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Delhi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

On Outty we rank every New Delhi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Taj Mahal & Agra Private Tour By AC Car From Delhi with 5* Meal, Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Private Day Trip From Delhi with 5* Lunch, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj Day Tour from Delhi by Car. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit New Delhi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in New Delhi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
