Great City Tour

We did the private city tour out of Amber Cove as a shore excursion from the cruise ship. There are many companies to choose from but this one was easy to communicate with and friendly. We were glad we chose to do this as we visited similar places as the large bus tours but earlier so missed the crowds. Jose was so kind, welcoming and very friendly. I also like that this is a family owned and run company. We had a great waterfront lunch. Prices were reasonable and fish was fresh. Highly recommended especially from the cruise ship. They pick up right at the taxi stand in port and send all the information on how to find them the day before. There are also many other tours to choose from but we did the city tour and it was perfect for use.

Wonderful Experience and outstanding guide

The travel guide Jose Sosa was outstanding! He went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. Not only did he showed us all of the beautiful things Puerto Plata has to offer, we had nice conversations and took great pictures. I would only want him if I ever return. He truly made our trip one to remember for years to come!

Don't be afraid to book - fabulous tour and private driver

My adult daughter and I booked directly with E&J Tours via Facebook Messenger for the City Tour, a private tour for just the two of us, no touring to anyone else's schedule. E&J requested a down payment of $30 total via Paypal and I paid it with no issue at all. The balance of $80 (plus a tip) was paid directly to our van driver after the tour was completed. Since we are two females by ourselves, safety is always a concern when we tour. There were NO concerns at all on this trip thanks to our fabulous tour guide/van driver. The day prior to our arrival, I received a Facebook message confirming all the details including time, meeting location, and our driver's name including a picture of his ID. We walked to the back of the port area where the green shirt guys were located (inside the port gate, no long walk outside the port gates), asked for our driver by name and he was waiting for us. Our driver, Jesus Castro, was fabulous!!!!!! He had a cooler of icy cold waters and Cokes for us to drink while on our tour to counter the heat (98, feels like 103). At each stop, he was right with us, no dropping us off to fend for ourselves other than a couple times when he had to find a parking spot but that only took a couple minutes before he was by our sides again. He happily took photos of my daughter and I on request (becoming our personal photographer) and even carried my heavy backpack for me part of the time, way beyond what I expected of him. Jesus was very friendly and talked to us like we were long lost friends. His knowledge of and pride in his country was very evident and he was determined to give us the best tour possible. Due to the heat and a prior ankle injury for my daughter that was flaring up with all our walking, we asked him to skip the fort. Instead, he took the time to drive us by it so we could at least see it and take a couple photos. I really can't think of a single criticism of this tour company nor of our fabulous driver, Jesus. Book it! You won't be sorry! We saw/visited: the Macorix rum factory (did the tastings); the store with larimar, mamajuana (tasted that, too...no, NOT marijuana...mamajuana), and cigars; a market in town for souvenirs at much better prices; Parque Independencia including San Felipe Cathedral and also climbed the gazebo in the city center; attended a chocolate presentation and tasting (fabulous hot chocolate!); Paseo de Doña Blanca (pink alley); Umbrella Street; the Puerta Plata sign; the Neptune statue; the beautiful Puerta Plata mural with a view toward our ship; and drove up the mountain for a fabulous panoramic view.

Pickup is at the far end of the entertainment area, approx 15 min walk once our disembark. Clean and comfortable vehicle for the 2 of us, water provided. Pick your own locations - Rum Tour, Coffee and Chocolate were typical tours incl short video, Cigar factory ok if you smoke, City tour Jesus did a good job of shepharding around the streets

5 star tour and service.

If you are docking in the Amber Cove cruise port or staying in or near Puerto Plata definitely check out E&J Taxi. From the moment I reached out to inquire about tour availability I experienced 5 star service. Communications were prompt, clear, and friendly. Meeting our driver at the port was easy and exactly as described in the email. There were 4 of us on the private tour with Elian. We had requested the city tour but he was able to adjust it to our preferences. Elian is so personable and seemed to know everyone. He is funny and very knowledgeable about his country. He taught us some new words in Spanish and we shared a few new words in English. We visited the “tourist” stops but also experienced a small local town and tried chicharrones from his favorite spot. I loved that it was not filled with tourists, as it gave us a more authentic experience. The tour lasted about 3 hours and it was the right amount of time to give us a nice sampling of the area. We were excited to learn they will be adding to their lists of tours in the very near future. If we ever come back to this area we will not hesitate to reach out to E&J again.
