Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City

This tour honestly meant so much to me. It didn’t feel like a typical excursion. We learned so much about cocoa production and the chocolate making process, but also about nature conservation, herbal remedies, and the deeper connection to the land. Getting to try the most delicious hot chocolate and authentic Dominican snacks made it even more special but what really stood out was sharing a meal with locals. The food was easily one of the best meals we’ve ever had, and the warmth and kindness from everyone we met made the experience feel so genuine and welcoming. Milton, our tour guide, was amazing!! You can tell he truly cares, he made sure we understood everything in a meaningful way and really immersed us in the culture. I’m incredibly grateful for this day. It’s something I’ll always remember, and I will definitely be recommending it. I already know I’ll be back🤍

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this beautiful and thoughtful review. It truly means a lot to us to know that your experience felt more than just a typical excursion — that is exactly what we aim to create with every tour. We’re especially happy you enjoyed learning about cocoa, Dominican culture, and sharing authentic moments with local people. Those are the experiences that make Puerto Plata so special. We’ll make sure to share your kind words with Milton — he will be very grateful and proud to know he made such an impact on your day. Thank you again for choosing Atlantic Tours. We would love to welcome you back anytime for another authentic experience in Puerto Plata.

Excellent restaurant. Beautiful facility, great meal choices, excellent quality and great service!!!

I travelled to Puerto Natales in the Chilean Patagonia, to visit Fabulous Torres Del Paine National Park a short distance away. During my stay I frequented a great restaurant named JAU Natales. It's a native name from the Kawescar native tribe

    Unique experience and tour

Absolutely recommend this tour. It does take time to get to the farm but worth the travel. Great hearing the family story, learning the organic and natural way of growing plants and tasting the raw cocoa.

Response from the operator: Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we hope to welcome you back for more memorable experiences in the future! We're delighted to hear that you found the tour worthwhile despite the travel time to the farm. Thank you for your recommendation!

Unique experience to an authentic cacao grower.

This was a very unique visit to an organic cacao plantation. The third-generation owner was very friendly and provided a great experience. Our driver and tour guide was over an hour late, but made up for it by staying an hour longer. We were traveling with kids and the delay pushed lunch back about 3 hours, which made for some grumpy guests. If you book this tour, be patient and bring snacks. Well worth the time.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback!! We apologize for the delay in our driver and tour guide's arrival, which caused inconvenience during your visit to the organic cacao plantation. We understand the importance of punctuality, especially when traveling with children. We're glad to hear that our team made up for the delay by extending the tour and providing an unforgettable experience. Your suggestion to bring snacks is duly noted, and we will strive to ensure smoother logistics for future tours. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for another enjoyable visit.

    Great Day Trip

We had a wonderful trip to Hacienda Cufa. The historical story of Puerto Plata province taught by the guide and opportunity to ask questions was superb. Walking through the jungle to see the chocolate plants was amazing and other plants were identified and talked about. We made, ate and even had a facial made of chocolate. We considered this an exceptional opportunity to experience the authentic Dominican Republic! Excellent trip overall. Karen, Kathie, Kristi and Dee

Response from the operator: Hi Karen, Kathie, Kristi, and Dee, So glad to hear you had an amazing trip to the Hacienda! The historical insights, jungle walk to see chocolate plants, and the chocolate experiences sound fantastic. It's wonderful that you considered it an exceptional opportunity to experience the authentic Dominican Republic. Wishing you more fantastic Tours ahead! Best,

Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.

How much does Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City cost?

    +

Prices start at $98 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.

Is Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cocoa & Artisan Chocolate Route with an Historical Tour in Puerto Plata City start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
