Hikes in Rio
The hike to Pedra da gavea and the half day hike to Sugarloaf were 100% the highlight of my trip to Rio. Ivanir and Adilio were fantastic guides. Not only were they excellent climbers who made sure I was safe but they were very knowledgeable about the area and I enjoyed chatting with them both. I would highly recommend these hikes, this company, and would definitely repeat when/if I come back to Rio!

BEST EXPERIENCE EVER
Our guide Thomas was amazing!!! He gave us the best experience, made us feel safe and told many interesting facts about the park and the history of the city and its beautiful nature during the tour. If you are in doubt about whether you are fit enough to go on this hike: don't worry. The biggest part of the tour is a hike, and the guide will help you a lot during the climbing part. THANK YOU TO THOMAS ❤️

Amazing hike to Pedra de Gavea!
I had an amazing hike to the top of Pedra da Gaeva with my guide from Rio Mountain Sports, Sergio. The entire hike and short climb was safe and one of the best things I’ve ever done over many trips to Rio. I think Gavea is more challenging than they list but maybe because I pushed and wanted a good pace. We did it round trip in under 5 hours since it was just Sergio and I, a group would take longer. Also, my wife and child thought about going and I’m glad I just went solo cause while it’s doable for most, it’s not easy. Previously I did the Sugarloaf hike with Rio Mountain Sports and that was amazing as well. Do both with them!!! Great company and excellent guides, I am excited to come back to Rio and do my third adventure with them

Hike to Pedra da Gavea
This hike was a highlight of my trip to Rio - the hike, views and nature were all incredible. The guide, Thomas, was super - he had a vast knowledge of the local history, geology and botany. He is also an experienced guide and climber who made sure that the hike and climbs were conducted safely and comfortably. I strongly suggest that anyone coming to Rio with a moderate level of fitness should do this hike - ask for Thomas as he will make the experience even better. Do bring lots of water as it gets very warm.

Amazing day
Such a great day!! My guide Denis was the AMAZING! He had such good energy and knew all the best spots for photo ops :-). The views at the top really are incredible but the climbing section was definitely the best part. I couldn’t recommend enough!!

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rio de Janeiro.
How much does Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea cost?
+
Prices start at $82 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rio de Janeiro usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rio de Janeiro is not rushed.
Is Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rio de Janeiro, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 8-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rio de Janeiro can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rio de Janeiro and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Climb to the top of Pedra da Gavea start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rio de Janeiro within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rio de Janeiro?
+
On Outty we rank every Rio de Janeiro experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pedra da Gávea hike, your best experience in Rio, Rio's Full Day: Selarón Steps, Christ & Sugarloaf – Tickets & Lunch Included, Rio: Tijuca Rainforest Hike, Wildlife, Waterfalls & Caves. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rio de Janeiro?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rio de Janeiro?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
