Leave the phone at home! Or in the car at least
I laughed more than I have laughed in years on this trip. The city tour is great fun, we got to buy some jewelry and eat great food, but the dune buggy experience was unreal. I will say, do not bring any electronics. They did not tell us that, and you will be fully submerged in muddy water. Our guide, Louis Alfredo, made the trip so much better. He kept the energy up when we were tired in the car. He made us feel safe and excited! The owners even went out of their way to pick us up, which was in the neighboring town of Cabarete. This trip is perfect for the girls - a little bit of city, a little bit of adventure.
Response from the operator: Thank you for recommending us and for allowing us to be part of your vacation.

Don't go!!!
I would not recommend this excursion. The city tour part was great but the dune buggy part was not. They gave us a faulty dune buggy. When we tried to make a right turn, the dune buggy wouldn't turn good resulting in us scrapping the bumper of a car. Then they charged us with the repairs to the bumper. Also we paid for pictures for the excursion and we never got our pictures. We paid over $80 and never got them. A complete ripoff!!! Do not book this excursion!!!!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much I will contact with guide of the buggy

Great Tour with a Fantastic Guide!
We were hesitant to book a tour with few reviews, but we don’t regret it at all! Jr was an awesome, respectful, and knowledgeable guide. He let us take our time, take in the experience, and answered all our questions. Macorix House of Rum: Didn’t have time. Paseo de Doña Blanca & Umbrella Street: Super busy during March break but very pretty. 4/5 Catedral San Felipe: Observed from outside with other downtown attractions. Fed pigeons!! 4/5 Fortaleza San Felipe: Didn’t have time. Del Oro Chocolate Factory: Short tour, wish it was more interactive. AMAZING chocolate! Bought brownie mix. 4/5 Fifi Jewelry & Cigar Store: Short tour. Passionate, knowledgeable staff, but wish it was more interactive. 3/5 Larimar Caribbean Buggy: YOU WILL GET SOAKED!! Wear a swimsuit under clothes or a garbage bag. Bring a bandana, towel, and a change of clothes (will have to wash at hotel). Professional photos available (not cheap, can negociate, bring cash). Such a blast! 5/5 Tips: Bring snacks or cash for food. Excursion is long but worth it—a great mix of adventure, city, and history!

Why this scores 58
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
City Tour and Dune Buggy: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.
How much does City Tour and Dune Buggy cost?
+
Prices start at $115 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does City Tour and Dune Buggy take?
+
Plan for about 5.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.
Is City Tour and Dune Buggy worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule City Tour and Dune Buggy?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is City Tour and Dune Buggy suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book City Tour and Dune Buggy?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does City Tour and Dune Buggy start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
