Economical and more enjoyable than metro
Very economical way to get to further areas of the city or from port to city. Athens if a VERY walkable city for the major attractions near the center. The subway is smooth if you want to be underground. For an aboveground experience that allows you to sit in comfort and see everything, this bus is great. It also works very well to save on tax fare for visiting things further from the center. You can buy your ticket in advance or direct from the driver. Check in advance to be sure the bus is going in the direction you want to go as there are several routes. The headphones and system don't work really well but the map lets you know where you are and each stop is numbered so just note the stop you'd like when you get on so you know when to hop off.

Great Overview of Athens
The bus schedules are pretty accurate and drivers are knowledgeable & helpful and will often alert you to your requested stop! Great overview of the city on Day 1 and easy to go back on the 2nd day to spend longer anywhere you choose at your leisure! Watch for ‘last bus’ times!
