Salah El-Din built it in 1176 AD, it was the place of most Egypt’s rulers for 700 years between the 9th and 12th century. Mohammed Ali was the last ruler in the citadel. Muhammad Ali Mosque The Muhammad Ali Mosque is located within the Citadel of Salah al-Din, and was built by Muhammad Ali in 1848. This mosque was called the Alabaster Mosque, referring to the marble slabs that covered its interior walls. Great tour with Reem Fouaad (independent tour guide). Mosque beautiful inside and out. Interesting history Wear very comfortable shoes ( no sandals/no heels) as walkways are very uneven. Shoes need to be removed in mosque; and shoulders covered for ladies.

Worth a photographic visit.
Worth a visit. Exteriors and interior of mosque are ornate. Plenty of walking wear comfy shoes. remember if its hot, don’t wear white its considered a sign of death, just light cotton and respect the culture. Remove shoes or take the plastic shoe covers offered when entering the mosque as a sign of respect.

Great if interested on the arts and Islamic and Christian religions.
Very interesting tour if you’re into art and cultural places. You can also visit some amazing sites that are part of the history of Christianity. The islamic museum is amazing and unique, since it’s mainly composed of pieces that have been passed through generations of families. Please look into the details of this package, as it includes visits to two places only. In my case, the guide contacted the company and told me I could add two more places for $40 each, which I did. If you decide to go for this amazing tour, make sure you remind your guide to take you to the “Hanguing Church” and all the other great churches around. I was never shown those so I had to go the next day with another guide (that would be my only complaint). The experience was great, and the guide and driver were very nice.

Great day, AMAZING GUIDE
The tour overall was great, giving us a holistic taste of Islamic Cairo and its most famous mosques. Our tour guide Mariam, really is one of a kind. She successfully managed to provide us with a vast amount of information, she is indeed very knowledgeable, without tiring us at any moment. We were so satisfied and enthusiastic about Mariam, that upon the end of our tour to the Islamic Cairo, we booked another tour, provided she would be our guide! Would absolutely recommend this tour to any visitors that go to Cairo:)
