Excellent tour, but Europe is too hot

Guide was excellent, knows her subject, it easy to follow what was being said. We saw everything we wanted to see. Unfortunately, the weather was too hot and it’s not always easy to keep up with the pace of the tour. We concentrated mostly I’m trying to find shade.

Enjoy Cinque Terre with a local expert.

Experienced a beautiful journey and learned about Cinque Terre from a local. Veronica spoke excellent English and was very informational. Best tour I’ve taken in a long time.

Response from the operator: ❤️❤️❤️ so kind Darlene and so glad about that

Communication was lagging that resulted in us missing the tour 😟

Sadly we were not very well informed of the transportation from the port to the train. Although we arrived at the taxi area with plenty of time to catch the train we had difficulty getting a cab or an uber. Either they didn’t show up or they didn’t accept credit card payment. Attempts to reach the tour guide proved difficult as there was no phone number to call. Email was the only form of communication e we could find. By the time we got a response to the email sent, it was way too late to try to catchup with the tour. We found communication to be very limited in Italy. When we asked a question only a short answer was given, that was true through much of the trip. Must be a cultural thing. We’re heartbroken that we did not get to see the area we were to visit. ☹️

Response from the operator: Sadly I can see how tourism has changed from May to June. Do you complain about taxi drivers with me? 😂 In few words: you booked the tour, you wrote me at 8,10 saying you were late (our meeting was at 8,30). I answered I could wait for you with the group and I waited. You didn't come. The day after you asked for refund saying you were heartbroken but you liked better to go to Portofino. And you wanted the refund. And I waited for you with the group. The rest of the people coming from your Cruiseship were on time. You were the only one who could not find a taxi, the rest came by taxi. My phone number Is in the Page of the tour. All the people who can read and are really interested in contacting me they do. You did not. So you went to Portofino and you want the refund. I don't think it's normal to write a feedback because you don't get a refund for what you haven't done because you were somewhere else. But maybe it's a cultural thing 😅

    The tour guide never...

The tour guide never showed up. After we returned to the ship we were informed the guide had some emergency. Understandable however it would have been nice to know before we took a cab into town in the rain.

Response from the operator: Dear Sirs, as you wrote you were aware that the guide had an emergency and she had no chance to inform you because......she was having an emergency and she was at the hospital. You never replied and you have been refunded. We hoped It was enough to refund you and to apologize. If she had the chance to inform you before taking the cab, She would have done that. For sure.

Cinque Terre by train and boat: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Spezia.

How much does Cinque Terre by train and boat cost?

    +

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Spezia usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cinque Terre by train and boat take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Spezia is not rushed.

Is Cinque Terre by train and boat worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 26 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Spezia, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cinque Terre by train and boat?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cinque Terre by train and boat suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Cinque Terre by train and boat?

    +

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Spezia can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Spezia and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cinque Terre by train and boat start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Spezia within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in La Spezia?

    +

On Outty we rank every La Spezia experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include La Spezia: Taste Cinque Terre on a Food Tour by Do Eat Better, Portovenere & Three Islands Small Group Boat Tour from La Spezia, 5 Islands from La Spezia: full day boat trip with swimming stops. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit La Spezia?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in La Spezia?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
