Each morning farmers set it up on a different street. These are the places where the locals go to do their grocery shopping, and tourists are welcome to walk around the several stands sampling fruits, street food and vegetables offered in the market. The fruit in Brazil really taste different. More than once I had people telling me “So that is what mango is supposed to taste like! I feel I’ve been cheated all my life…”.

Santa Teresa
This picturesque and well preserved colonial style area born in the mid-1800s is now an artsy neighborhood full of bars, cafés and good restaurants that offer a myriad food options including the best Acai and cheese bread in Rio. The place offers great photo opportunities with its painted murals, street art, cobblestone streets and a variety of souvenirs shops, including the only one in Rio listed on Lonely Planet for having only items made by local artists.

Selaron’s Staircase is a set of world-famous steps. They are the work of Chilean-born artist Jorge Selaron who claimed that the staircase is his tribute to the Brazilian people. The steps straddle both the Lapa and Santa Teresa neighborhoods. There are 250 steps which are covered in over 2000 tiles collected from over 60 countries around the world.

Luis is the best guide!
We had the best experience with Luis! He was a wonderful guide and has so much knowledge of Rio. His restaurant recommendations were spot on!

Fantastic 2 day tours!
Luis toured us around for 2 days in Rio. He was very flexible regarding our interests and super knowledgeable about everything. Tour of sugarloaf was amazing as he pointed out all the different areas we could see from the viewpoint. The market was amazing! Trying all the different foods at the market was so fun and interesting. He also took us to a local place for lunch that served traditional Brazilian food. Would highly recommend him!!!!

Visit to Farmers' market, Christ, St Teresa and Seraldon steps
Luis gave two friends and me a 6-hour tour on the first day of our stay in Rio. It was a great experience that introduced us immediately to some of the most important and interesting spots. Luis was very adaptable and knowledgeable and didn't only give us great insights on the city, but we even received great recommendations of good bars and places where we could listen to Brasilian music. Going to a farmer's market with Luis was particularly interesting, because he introduced us to local fruits and other specialties, which we would otherwise not have discovered. Also the Santa Teresa neighborhood was great to discover with Luis, who could show us the best places and could give us a lot of background. Overall, it was a great experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone who goes to Rio de Janeiro.

What an incredible day! Private tour where you're not stuffed in a van with a dozen others. Extremely thorough and knowledgeable guide. (Sorry guide, I'm terrible with names and forgot already). He went above and beyond the normal expectations of a tour and goes out of his way to make sure you have the best experience possible. If you're thinking of a tour of Rio, this is the ultimate one to book 👌 worth every penny and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Perfect sightseeing on a sunny Sunday
Luis is the perfect guide, if you want to have a good Rio experience in just one day as we did. It was always relaxed and we did see everything we wanted. It’s like spending a day with a friend in his home town. Always nice and you get a lot of background information. Strongly recommend!
