Dropping a stunning 100 feet per mile, just 40 minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park, breathes the start of Costa Rica’s best commercial whitewater adventure. Chorro section starts in the mountain village of Esquipulas. Our route carves deep into the river’s exposed bedrock, making this thrilling section of the Naranjo River an exception to the geological youth of Costa Rica. This 3km canyon delights the adventure seeker with fun drops and steep runs through 12 technical narrows. January is the high water month. Lots of thrills! In February the river runs at medium level. March and April the rapids become steep and technical. Never a dull moment. Paddle Hard! Get down…Hi Five!! Be ready!! to bounce and squeeze through the gorge’s tight rock walls, maneuver and carve around massive boulders and bends, and sweep down drops through challenging unforgettable chutes. Dragon’s Tail, Chorro Rapid and Stacy’s Lament are some of the challenges that you will paddle through.

This was absolutely the...
This was absolutely the most fun thing we did on our trip. Gregory rafted along side of us for safety, and did an excellent job explaining about our surroundings from the time they picked us up at our condo to the time we put our rafts in the water. Landon also rafted ahead of us, and got some truly great photos. Flippy, our captain, took his time describing things to us as we rafted down the river, and expertly told us when to paddle all while guiding us down. Ian, in the office, was very responsive before we arrived and set up a delicious meal for us after we were done, and when they got unexpectedly busy later in the day, personally came to pick us up from lunch and take us back to our condo. We had the best time, and can't wait to come back and do it again!

Best rafting trip in Costa Rica
Wow. The best rafting experience I have ever had. Incredible location full of beauty and wildlife. Exciting runs full of rapids back to back to back. Gregory was an incredibly talented guide, full of information and humor and kept us out of trouble. Landon was great getting things ready and cleaned up and laughing with us as well. Eric was great helping us get organized and out the door quickly. He was full of information to and from the river and did a great job taking pictures. Really they were an outstanding team. Capi also kept us laughing in the van.

An adventure you definitely need to take advantage of while in Costa Rica. H2O Adventure rafting guides were great.
The H2O Adventure Rafting is a must do while in Costa Rica. The office team and guides were extremely professional and did a great job making this a memorable experience. I will definitely be doing the trip with friends and family that come to visit in the future.

Epic El Chorro rafting—well-run, accommodating guides, thrilling rapids, stunning scenery, great food. Highly recommend.
I booked the El Chorro River Private Rafting Trip from H2O adventures. It was awesome! I booked through their WhatsApp and they were very accommodating. I had a large group (18 people) and I only booked about 2 days in advance. Ian handled all the communication via WhatsApp in advance of the trip and he was really good at communicating. He allowed me different options for lunch (we chose the sandwich buffet by the river instead of restaurant) and he let me select specific snacks and beverages (Imperial original) specific for our group. Arrival and checkin was easy. There was about a 25 min ride form the office to the launch point. We were out of vans and geared up quickly before a short walk down to the river. I advise to block up well before you leave. They advised we leave everything (sunglasses, phones (even in waterproof pouches) in the vans unless we were alright losing them. Probably the right call. At the river we had a quick instruction/safety meeting and we were off. I have done some much more mellow rapids in Oregon… this was way more fun. The first few class IV and V rapids were a little hairy. My raft got flipped on the biggest one, but I was so impressed with how quickly the guides jumped into action. They had a raft of 3 guides that just scouted ahead to make sure we were safely back in the boat. It was really clear they were prepared and well staffed for a technical ride. The rest of the trip had more mellow rapids (still fun) and some of the best scenery surrounding you that you can imagine. Just a canyon of lush jungle paradise and clear blue water. We ended with our sandwiches and cervezas by the river. I recommend that option if it’s available. It let us enjoy the natural surroundings and compare our rafting stories while eating and joking with our guides. Shout out to Landon, Eric and Gregory. You guys were great. Thank you Leo for taking such good care of us. We finished with a quick trip back. I ordered the photos and videos they took. That was nice because I didn’t have to worry about losing my phone. The cost for photos was reasonable, although it’s always more fun to take your own candid or nature shots… but the risk you lose your phone is always there. Highly recommend this trip and company. Pura Vida.

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Quepos.
How much does Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio cost?
+
Prices start at $138 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Quepos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Quepos is not rushed.
Is Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 34 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Quepos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 15. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Quepos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Quepos and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Chorro Rafting Private Trip From Manuel Antonio start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Quepos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Quepos?
+
On Outty we rank every Quepos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Whitewater Rafting Savegre Class II-III plus Waterfall Manuel Antonio, Manuel Antonio Canopy Tour - Longest Twin Zip Line in Central America, Waterfall Ziplining & Canyoning. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Quepos?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Quepos?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
