    1. Mae Kampong Village

Your journey starts in a secluded rainforest area guided by a local expert and a gibbon caretaker. As you walk deeper under the canopy, you’ll learn about native plants and herbs, and how the community uses them in everyday life. The forest holds surprises too, with a high chance of hearing wild gibbons calling across the hills and, if they stay nearby, spotting them moving through the treetops. From the jungle, follow peaceful village paths toward a tucked-away waterfall, stopping along the way to take in the shade, the streams, and the slow rhythm of Mae Kampong. A scenic coffee break with panoramic views lets you soak up the atmosphere before a simple local lunch in the village, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Expect natural, uneven trails that reward steady footing and moderate fitness. You return to Chiang Mai by late afternoon feeling refreshed, curious, and glad you went looking for something hidden.

    Highly recommend

Absolutely amazing experience. The tour guides were amazing and extremely knowledgeable of the area. Even though it poured rain on us I would still do it 10/10 times. One of the best experiences I had in the Chiang Mai area.

A fun day away from the busy city

It was nice to slow down for a day. Walking through the forest and spending time around Mae Kampong felt completely different from the city. Even without seeing wildlife every minute, the peaceful surroundings made the trip worthwhile.

    All-round amazing day

What an incredible day - our guide Nee was fantastic and very knowledgeable, we took many stops along the way to find out more about the local plants and ecology. The company definitely went above and beyond to make this a great experience, from helping to spot Gibbons to giving us all sticky rice as a snack! Fantastic value for money, amazing tour and company, would definitely recommend.

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chiang Mai and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Chiang Mai?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chiang Mai?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
