    About this experience

The Chassahowitzka River — locals call it "The Chaz" — is what you get when you drive past all the crowded springs and keep going. It's near Homosassa in Citrus County, less than 2 hours from Orlando and Tampa — close enough for a weekend escape, far enough to feel like you've discovered wild Florida! Each tour is guided by a passionate & knowledgeable guide, operated in small groups, and use 100% clear tandem kayaks. We offer two seasonal clear kayak tours here: Manatee Season Tours (Nov 15–Mar 31): focused on spotting these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Summer Springs Tours (Apr 1–Nov 14): all about spring-hopping, wildlife, and swimming in stunning freshwater springs.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Your adventure begins at Seven Sisters Campground, tucked along a quiet canal just off the main Chassahowitzka River. From there, we’ll paddle to the famous Seven Sisters Springs, where clear water flows over ancient limestone formations. You’ll see natural underwater tunnels connecting the springs—perfect for a little swim or just soaking in the view. Next, we’ll head downstream towards Baird Creek, a winding waterway only accessible by small paddle crafts. Surrounded by overhanging trees and untouched wilderness, it feels like stepping into a real-life jungle—many guests say it’s like paddling through a scene from Jurassic Park. This tour offers a mix of stunning spring views, hidden corners of “Old Florida,” and plenty of chances to spot wildlife along the way. Whether you're paddling, swimming, or just floating and taking it all in, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

    2. 7 Sisters Springs

Paddle through secluded springs with enough time to swim in iconic locations like Seven Sisters Springs. Water levels determine access to The Crack — when the tide is right, we'll take you there. When it's not, we'll show you equally beautiful hidden spots and springs around the Chaz that most people never find. Either way, you're swimming in pristine Old Florida water!

    The Chaz

It was a pleasure spending the afternoon with Bobby. He was very personable and easygoing and wanted to show us the “off the beaten path” side of the Chaz and a little bit of old Florida. This is definitely more of a locals’ river than a touristy spring experience. The water isn’t quite the crystal-clear water you’ll find at places like Rainbow River or Crystal River, but it has its own laid-back, old Florida feel. The tour itself was very relaxed—more like having someone along to explore the river with us. Bobby was friendly, made us feel comfortable and safe, and we enjoyed our time with him. Overall, a fun and easygoing afternoon on the water!

Great trip on the Chaz with Crosby

Crosby was a great kayak tour guide on the Chaz. He knew the best places to see that were not as crowded on a holiday weekend. We saw turtles and river otters! He shared interesting facts about the area. We will definitely ask for him again!

Response from the operator: Hi there, Heather! Thanks so much for joining Crosby's kayak tour at the Chaz! We're amped that you had a fun time and learned some new things. We hope to see you in Crystal River next time!

Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Crystal River.

How much does Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours cost?

    +

Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Crystal River usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Crystal River is not rushed.

Is Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 306 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Crystal River, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours?

    +

Around 107 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Crystal River can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Crystal River and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Chassahowitzka River Clear Kayak Springs & Manatee Tours start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Crystal River within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Crystal River?

    +

Crystal River is the one place in Florida with permitted in-water manatee tours: early-morning snorkel trips into Three Sisters Springs, scalloping in summer and spring-fed kayak paddles. On Outty we rank every Crystal River experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 Hour Small Group All Inclusive Manatee Swim with free Photo pkg, Guided Small Group Manatee Snorkeling Tour with In-Water Photographer, Most Popular 3hr Manatee Swim Tour + In-Water Guide!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Crystal River?

    +

November to March for manatee season, July to September for scalloping. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Crystal River?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
