What you'll see and do

  1. Almaty

Our way will go along the Kuldjinskiy route, where the caravans of the Grate Silk way went towards the Chinese border centuries ago. We will have time to speak about the history of the Grate Silk way, the nations that inhabited this lands, their traditions and religions. To the left along our way we will admire the horizons of the Grate Steppe – the cradle of the nomadic civilization, where the herds still graze and the web of the wild paths leads to the farms of the local shepherds. To the right we will be seeing the snow-covered peaks of the ancient Tian Shan mountains. Then we will drive through the Kok Pek gorge, Sugatinskaya, and Zhelanashskaya valleys and see the villages where they used to plant tobacco for the Soviet Union in the past and now they live the quiet life of private landowning.

  2. Charyn Canyon National Park

Charyn canyon is considered to the be the smaller brother of the famous Grand Canyon in the USA, its length is more than 150km and its depth at some places reaches 300m. We will visit the most interesting part of the canyon that is called “The Valley of castles”, the most effectively “The Valley of Castles” looks from the bottom, where the tourists path is made. The walking part of our tour is 2,5km long with a stop for a snack. On the way we will speak about the history of the canyon, its legends, flora and fauna. Walking down towards the Charyn river we will see different historical layers that are millions of years old. The end of the path is the picturesque Charyn river bank. The way back on the local “taxi” to the parking is also an adventure: in the specially equipped Russian off-road opened small track we will drive with the wind along the natural stone towers and arches of the canyon.

Wild West in the Middle Asia

After having my first tour with this company I was so impressed that changed my plane tickets to get another tour. Even though the weather was very hot I never regretted that I took my chance to go to this marvelous place! The road takes about 3 hours but my tour guide Maria made these 3 hours extremely interesting telling me the fascinating stories about the history and culture of this great land and it’s people. I got to know about the Silk way and medieval kingdoms of the steppes, the ancient traditions of the nomads and how are they are still alive in the modern life the local people! The canyon itself is also a wonderful experience - suddenly you feel yourself at the Wild West but then you see Asian tents “yurta” and here comes the old ussr car offering you a lift through the canyon - absolutely mind blowing thing! 😃 The views are also breathtaking of course (see the photos!!). This place is definitely the must see and I highly recomendé to do it with this company!!

Charyn Canyon Private tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Almaty.

How much does Charyn Canyon Private tour cost?

+

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Almaty usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Charyn Canyon Private tour take?

+

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Almaty is not rushed.

Is Charyn Canyon Private tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Almaty, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Charyn Canyon Private tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Charyn Canyon Private tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Charyn Canyon Private tour?

+

Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Almaty can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Almaty and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Charyn Canyon Private tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Almaty within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Almaty?

+

On Outty we rank every Almaty experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kolsai, Kaindy Lakes and Charyn Canyon Small Group Tour, Kolsai Kaindy Lakes with Charyn Canyons 2-day tour, Small-Group Tour: Kolsai & Kaindy Lakes with Charyn Canyons. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Almaty?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Almaty?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
