Great chocolate crafting and tasting workshop

Josue did a really great job in explaining the history and the process of making chocolate. It was a very fun and interesting workshop. We tried chocolate tea, learned how to distinguish real and fake chocolate and made our own chocolate drinks and chocolate pralines. Even though we were only with the two of us, Josue did the workshop for us. And everything smells soo good! Can definitely recommend!

Wonderful experience for the whole family

I have been to chocolate workshops in Mexico and Costa Rica, but this class in Arequipa, Peru was by far the most interesting and fun. Andres is an outstanding instructor. He is super knowledgeable, an engaging presenter, and made sure we were enjoying the workshop. Our whole family loves chocolate and we learned all about what makes chocolate “real or fake” and each member of our family was able to craft their own custom chocolates with high quality ingredients. This was the perfect activity for our family.

Good experience with some minor issues

I got an email and got bumped to the other location last minute, annoying but not the end of the world. The other location was nice but significantly smaller and could get tight with a full house. The experience was nice and informative, but felt a little rushed. The guide was delightful and knowledgeable but I didn’t always attune to the needs of the group, she was busy chatting with another staff member and not paying attention to the group at times. I didn’t have enough chocolate melted for my mold and nothing was done when I made a comment. The chocolate that was melted wasn’t melted fully and was a bit chunky and hard for me to place in the mold. Chocolate tasted great and I enjoyed being able to sample and pick which chocolate I preferred. Overall, a good experience. I think the staff needs to prioritize the guests over socializing during the experience.

Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Arequipa.

How much does Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop cost?

    +

Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Arequipa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop take?

    +

Plan for about 2.3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Arequipa is not rushed.

Is Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 121 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Arequipa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop suitable for kids and families?

How far in advance should I book Chaqchao Chocolate Making Workshop?

    +

Around 42 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Arequipa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Arequipa and add a light layer if any part of the 2.3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Arequipa?

    +

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Arequipa?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Arequipa?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
