What you'll see and do

  1. Elafonissi Beach

Off the southwestern tip of Crete, about 75 kilometers from Chania town, lies Elafonisi beach and small island. It is within walking distance from the mainland, sometimes without even getting one’s toes wet. It was once used by pirates to hide their loot (lafyra) and that is how it got its name. The island (about 1.3 km long and 400 meters wide) is a protected nature reserve and boasts one of the finest sand beaches in the country. More than that, Elafonisi is the only Greek contender in a Tripadvisor list of the world’s 25 best beaches for 2014. This is to be expected: blindingly white-pink sand, turquoise-white lagoon-like waters that ripple as they pick up the breeze, an exotic place with sporadic vegetation against the stark bareness of the Cretan mountains. On the island discover numerous small coves, sandy beaches and interesting rock formations. It is also home to 110 plant species including the protected Androcymbium rechingeri, which is as rare as it sounds.

    150 minutes here

  2. Falasarna beach is located in the western part of Crete, about 53 km from the town of Chania and 13 km from the town of Kissamos. Quite popular with day trippers, its stunning beaches and clear turquoise blue sea are unique. It has received many awards for its beauty, amenities and services enjoyed by the visitor. The long sandy beach is one of its most important advantages, as it offers the chance to the visitors to enjoy it, even in the high season period. Swimming in the crystal clear turquoise waters of the beach, will make anyone feel the ultimate pleasure. Its beach is fully organized with umbrellas and sun beds in its biggest part. However, there are several free spots for those who prefer to put their own umbrella and towel on the sand. What will impress you the most, is the charming and unique sunset, one of the most beautiful in Greece. The sunset there is really impressive, as there is nothing to obstruct your field of view between the beach and the horizon.

  3. The Monumental Olive Tree of Vouves

The Olive tree of Vouves is probably one of the oldest olive trees in the world, which remains productive to this day. The exact age of the tree cannot be determined. While tree ring analysis demonstrated the tree to be at least 2000 years old, scientists from the University of Crete have estimated it to be 4000 years old. In 1997 it was declared a protected natural monument and, in October 2009, the Olive Tree Museum of Vouves was inaugurated in a nearby 19th-century house, displaying traditional tools used in the process of olive cultivation. As of the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, olive branches “kotinos” from this ancient olive tree were used for the wreath of Marathon winners in every Olympic game. Every year over 20,000 people from all over the world visit this ancient tree.

10/10 experience

Done this experience with a group of friends and this was one of the highlights of the beautiful island of Crete. Both the beaches were divine in different ways, and the olive oil tasting was a perfect way to end it. They provided everything required for the beaches, including mats and umbrellas as well as a nice lunch. A special shout out to our guides Christine & Kostas who provided a great trip, had cool facts, and even taught the group a bit of greek. They even went out of their way to provide reccomendations for the rest of our holiday and helped us out when we required a transport service another day. Would definitely use their service again should I revisit.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful 10/10 review! It truly means a lot to us to hear that your day with us was one of the highlights of your time in Crete. We’re delighted that you enjoyed both Elafonisi and Falasarna, the olive oil tasting, and of course the snacks and beach setup. We’re especially happy to hear that Christine and Kostas helped make the experience even more memorable with their stories, local tips, and a little Greek along the way! 🇬🇷 It was an absolute pleasure having you and your friends with us, and we’re so glad we could also help with recommendations and transportation during the rest of your holiday. That’s exactly the kind of connection and experience we hope to create for our guests. We would be thrilled to welcome you back to Crete whenever you return. Until then, we wish you all many more wonderful adventures!!

Highlight of my holiday in Crete.

Christine and Kostas has made this trip the highlight of my holiday in Crete. They were funny, cool and knowledgeable about Crete in general. Answered any questions we had, gave us recommendations on where to go and helped us in anyway they can. The beaches they took us too were the best beaches I have ever visited so far and not to forget the famous olive oil tree.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much Moukhtar for your wonderful review! It truly makes us happy to hear that your day with us became the highlight of your holiday in Crete. 🌿☀️ It was a pleasure spending the day with you, sharing our love for Crete, answering your questions, and of course, having plenty of fun along the way! We’re especially delighted that you enjoyed Elafonisi and Falasarna—two of our absolute favourite places on the island—and that you also enjoyed discovering the fascinating world of Cretan olive oil. Thank you for your kind words about Christine and Kostas. We always try to make our guests feel comfortable, relaxed, and well looked after, while giving them a genuine taste of Crete beyond just the usual sightseeing. We hope you return to Crete one day, and if you do, we’ll be more than happy to show you even more of our beautiful island!!

Tour Crete by loving local Cretans!

Christine is an absolutely exceptional guide and Thanos our driver was very kind, attentive and safe! All the details of the entire tour were thoughtfully curated and it was so nice to be in such great hands. We had a group of 15 and we didn't have to worry about anything. The atmosphere in the bus was perfect for the hot weather and the cold waters when we got back from our tours was such a nice touch! Also, a big differentiator from all the other tour groups was the yummy snack box provided! We will forever remember the beauty of Crete because of this amazing company. Thank you!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much Athanasia for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that Christine and Thanos made your day so memorable. Your kind words about Christine’s guidance and Thanos’ safe and attentive driving mean a great deal to our team. It’s wonderful to know that you appreciated the thoughtful details throughout the tour, from the comfortable bus and cold water to the local snack box. We believe those little touches help create an even more enjoyable experience, so we're delighted they stood out to you. Hosting your group was truly our pleasure. Thank you for choosing to explore Crete with us and for allowing us to be part of your memories. We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure in the future!

Memorable Day Visiting Elafonisi and Falasarna Beach

Delightful husband and wife team Christine and Thanos strive to make sure you thoroughly enjoy your experience and want for nothing. It felt like a visit with family. They provided an honest peek at life on Crete and were happy to share all the details. Falasarna Beach spoke to us with its crystal clear blue water, gentle wave action, beachside amenities, and soft sand. We loved it so much we chose to stay there until the last possible moment before needing to embark for home. This is the benefit of a private tour. You can shape it and tailor-it to you and your family in the moment. We appreciated this very much. The drop off and pickup allowed us to skip the walk from the parking lots and back which equaled more time doing what we wanted to do. I think it’s also important to mention that Thanos is a careful driver. Since the roads are often our most dangerous adventure wherever we happen to be, I was thankful for this small but important detail. I recommend booking directly with them and starting a text string for instant and timely communication.

Response from the operator: Dear Katina, thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. Your words truly mean the world to us. It was a pleasure and a joy to spend the day with you and share a little piece of our Crete — not only the beautiful places, but also the stories, traditions, and everyday life that make our island special. We are so happy that Falasarna Beach touched your hearts and that you were able to enjoy it at your own pace. This is exactly why we love private tours: creating moments that feel personal and unforgettable. We are especially grateful for your kind words about our care and attention to detail. Making our guests feel comfortable, safe, and welcomed is something we truly value. Meeting wonderful people like you is one of the greatest gifts of what we do. We hope to welcome you back to Crete one day and create more beautiful memories together!!

Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chania.

How much does Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting cost?

+

Prices start at $500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chania usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting take?

+

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chania is not rushed.

Is Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 54 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chania, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting?

+

Around 19 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chania can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chania and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Chania: Elafonisi & Falasarna Private Tour w/olive oil tasting start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chania within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chania?

+

On Outty we rank every Chania experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Rethymno Quad Safari, Elafonisi & Falasarna Small Group Tour from Chania w/snacks, Balos & Falassarna Beach - Jeep Tour with Loungers and Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chania?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chania?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
