The Best Chai Masterclass in Delhi – Authentic Masala Chai Experience
If you love chai, Indian tea, or authentic Indian food experiences, this Chai Masterclass in Delhi is an experience you should not miss! I have always wanted to learn how to make authentic masala chai, and I’m so glad I found this experience. It was exactly what I was looking for. I didn’t just learn a recipe — I learned the actual technique behind making the perfect cup of authentic Indian chai. The host explained why we add each and every spice, what role the different spices play, when to add them, and how the ingredients work together to create the perfect flavour. I especially loved learning the proper brewing technique, because making a really good masala chai is so much more than simply putting tea, milk and spices together. What made this experience even more special was the location. The chai masterclass takes place in an authentic local Indian family home, rather than a commercial cooking studio. That made it feel incredibly personal and gave us the opportunity to experience genuine Indian hospitality and a little piece of everyday life in India. And the chai itself? Absolutely delicious! Honestly, this was some of the best chai I have ever tasted. I think I may have become slightly addicted to it! 😂 I loved the balance of tea, milk and spices, and now I feel confident that I can recreate authentic Indian masala chai at home. The host also explained the traditional ingredients and the potential health benefits of chai spices, which made the experience even more interesting. I really enjoyed understanding not only how to make chai taste amazing, but also why these spices have been used traditionally in Indian households for generations. If you are looking for things to do in Delhi, an authentic Indian tea experience, a chai cooking class, or the perfect masala chai experience in Delhi, I highly recommend this masterclass. For me, this was much more than a tea-making class. It was a wonderful cultural experience, a chance to learn about Indian chai and spices, and a beautiful way to experience authentic Indian hospitality inside a local family home. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Delhi who loves chai! ☕🇮🇳

A brilliant experience, it was fun and I learned somethings
As a huge tea lover, I’ve tried all kinds of teas from around the world, but Indian chai has always been one of my favourites. I attempted to make it at home many times, but it never tasted the same as the delicious chai I’d enjoyed in cafés or at friends’ homes in India. After attending the Chai Master Workshop with Explore Real India, I finally understood why. JD and his team explained every step of the process in detail, including why each ingredient is added at a specific time and how each technique helps develop the flavour, aroma, and richness of authentic Indian masala chai. It wasn’t just a cooking class—it was a fascinating cultural experience that gave me a much deeper appreciation for Indian tea traditions. The hands-on chai brewing techniques were easy to follow, and the chai I made turned out absolutely delicious. I now feel completely confident making authentic Indian chai at home every day. A heartfelt thank you to JD, his family, and the entire Explore Real India team for welcoming me into their beautiful home and sharing your knowledge, hospitality, and family recipe. The experience was worth every minute and every penny. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who loves tea, coffee, Indian culture, or authentic local experiences. If you’re visiting India and want to learn how to make real Indian chai while experiencing genuine Indian hospitality, this is a must-do experience. Thank you again for such a memorable day. I’ll be making this chai every day, and every cup will remind me of your wonderful family and this incredible experience.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this wonderful review. It is great to hear from a fellow tea lover. I am so glad that our workshop finally helped you crack the code to making the perfect cup of masala chai at home. Breaking down exactly when to add the spices and how to boil it just right is something my family takes a lot of pride in teaching. Knowing that you will be brewing our family recipe every day and thinking of us makes us incredibly happy. Having you in our home was a genuine pleasure for all of us. Since you enjoyed learning the traditional methods and stories behind our tea, you might enjoy checking out my cookbook to try some of our food recipes too. One of the Best Things to Do in Delhi – Chai Master Workshop
My Indian friend in Germany introduced me to masala chai, and I’ve loved it ever since. During my recent trip to India, I found this wonderful Chai Master Workshop in Delhi, and it became one of the most unique things I did on my trip. The workshop takes place in a local family’s home, which made the experience feel authentic and personal. JD and his family were incredibly warm and welcoming, and they patiently answered every question about chai, Indian culture, spices, and their health benefits. It was a hands-on class where I learned to brew authentic Indian masala chai and even create my own spice blend. We also enjoyed delicious homemade snacks in a relaxed, homely atmosphere. If you’re looking for unique things to do in Delhi, an authentic chai workshop, or a local cultural experience beyond the usual sightseeing, I highly recommend this experience with the Explore Real India team.
Response from the operator: That is so awesome—I love that your chai journey started all the way in Germany with your friend and brought you right here to our living room in Delhi! There is something truly magical about sitting down over a steaming cup of tea, breaking down the health benefits of spices like cardamom, ginger, and cloves, and learning how to crush and blend them just right. Brewing authentic masala chai is practically an art form in an Indian household, and I'm so glad you enjoyed getting your hands dirty making your own custom spice blend! If you ever need a refresher on proportions or want to try brewing a new variation at home, we share lots of our family kitchen tips and tea recipes on Instagram @ Art of Indian Cooking. Whenever you make your way back to Delhi, we'd love to take you out into the city for a street food walk to hunt down some of the best local street-side chaiwalas and savory bites! (You can take a peak at those neighborhood walks on Insta at Food Tours Delhi). On behalf of my whole family and the Explore Real India team, thank you for such a thoughtful review and for bringing your wonderful energy into our home. Keep brewing that freshly ground chai back home!

Chai sip for complete relaxation
After such an amazing cooking class, I couldn't resist staying for JD's Chai Master Class as well—and I'm so glad I did. It turned out to be one of the coziest and most memorable experiences of my time in Delhi. Learning to prepare authentic Indian masala chai was fascinating. JD explained the history of tea in India, the purpose of each spice, and how to balance the flavors perfectly. As the chai slowly simmered, the room filled with the most wonderful aroma of cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, and other fragrant spices. The first sip was unforgettable. The chai was rich, smooth, and beautifully balanced, with a comforting warmth that seemed to spread far beyond the cup itself. More than just a delicious drink, it created a feeling of home, peace, and complete relaxation—a moment where the busy world simply faded away. This is much more than a tea lesson. It's a chance to experience Indian hospitality, culture, and tradition through one of its most beloved drinks. I left with a wonderful recipe, a deeper appreciation for chai, and memories that I'll happily recreate at home. Highly recommended!

Chai Masterclass - 10/10 Experience-- Highly Recommend!!
I booked both JD’s indian cooking class and chai masterclass! These two experiences were easily some of the most memorable parts of my time in Delhi and felt so much more personal than any typical tour. Being welcomed into a local family home made everything feel authentic, from learning to cook a full Indian meal to understanding the stories and spices behind each dish. Both experiences were incredibly hands-on and interactive, and we truly felt like part of the family by the end. The chai masterclass was just as special—we learned how to craft the perfect chai from scratch and gained a deeper appreciation for its cultural significance. If you’re looking for a genuine cultural experience filled with amazing food, meaningful conversation, and warm hospitality, I couldn’t recommend these enough!

Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for New Delhi.
How much does Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food cost?
+
Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in New Delhi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in New Delhi is not rushed.
Is Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 35 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in New Delhi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in New Delhi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in New Delhi and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Chai Master Class in an Authentic Indian Home with Food start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central New Delhi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in New Delhi?
+
On Outty we rank every New Delhi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Taj Mahal & Agra Private Tour By AC Car From Delhi with 5* Meal, Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Private Day Trip From Delhi with 5* Lunch, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Baby Taj Day Tour from Delhi by Car. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit New Delhi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in New Delhi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
