The Mayan Ruins of Chacchoben are the most popular and visited attraction to spend a great day on the Costa Maya. It is approximately 55 minutes by car from the Port of Costa Maya. This site is located a few kilometers from the town of Chacchoben from which its name is derived. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place of Red Corn." The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and enormous platforms dating back to 700 AD. c.

Costa Maya Cruise Port
When you arrive at the port of Costa Maya, after you disembark your cruise you will have to go to the main exit where the yellow taxis are, there we have transport with our logo and one of our drivers can take you directly to our office where we will check in where you will wait about 15 minutes before leaving for your excursion and you can enjoy a complimentary drink, and then leave to your first stop at the archaeological zone of Chacchoben that will take about an hour to arrive.

This was great got to see...
This was great got to see a bit of the ruins and still had plenty of time at the lagoon. It was nice that it was a small group. Carlos and Huichi were great. Huichi went above and beyond bringing us what ever we needed. The lagoons waters were refreshing but definitely bring water shoes it is slippery. Lunch was good too.

Great combo of culture and beach
It was a great tour educational, Carlos knew a lot about the ruins and Mayan culture. Huitzi our driver was amazing! He provided plenty of cold waters to drink, even got us pineapple. The lagoon part was beautiful, we had the place to ourselves. Huitzi got us the best tacos from the place. Would definitely do this tour if you are thinking about it, well worth it.

Victor was a real cool guy who made our day in Costa Maya so much better. From the start, it was clear he genuinely cared about us feeling safe and fully informed about what to expect at every stop. He took the time to walk us through the plan so we always knew what was coming next. What really stood out was his lively, game-show-host energy when talking about the local foods, markets, and especially the tequila. You could tell he was completely at home in his element—enthusiastic, funny, and fully locked into the experience. It never felt forced; it just felt like Victor being Victor, and that made everything more fun and memorable. If you’re looking for a guide who keeps things informative, relaxed, and entertaining all at once, Victor delivers. Highly recommend!

Amazing Chacchoben & Bacalar Experience as a Solo Traveler
Excellent experience with The Native Choice. I did the Chacchoben and Bacalar tour while traveling solo, and I felt safe and well taken care of the entire time. The tour itself was very interesting and well balanced, combining the history and culture of Chacchoben with the beautiful scenery and relaxing atmosphere of Bacalar. Eric was an excellent guide, very friendly, attentive, and informative, and Roger was also a great driver. Both of them made the whole experience feel very welcoming and enjoyable. The only thing to keep in mind is that the Native Choice kiosk is a bit of a walk from the cruise port. Other than that, everything was very well organized and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this tour, especially to solo travelers.

don’t go!
miscommunication! tour guide unable to respond to questions in a timely manner! it was a anniversary cruise that was affected by tours that were impacted by not keeping passengers on a cruise updated with time frames. it also involved 4 hours of travel time to and from ship. i would not advise doing this tour guide. i would do another experience. also book through cruise line bc its the only way its guaranteed!!! not viator
