Not the tour we booked - beware of substitutions!

We paid over $350 per person specifically for the advertised full-day, small-group luxury catamaran experience. About 24 hours after booking, the host told us our boat was unavailable but that we had been moved to another boat that was “bigger and nicer.” What was not disclosed was that we were actually being booked onto an entirely different company’s excursion. We only discovered this when our driver handed us tickets for AMC Cape Grace on the morning of the trip. We had already seen the listings for AMC Cape Grace boat tours and deliberately passed over these larger-group tours because we wanted the smaller experience advertised in this listing. To make matters worse, the AMC Cape Grace excursion we were placed on was available to book directly for approximately $120-$140 per person, despite us having paid more than $350 per person through this listing. We also met other guests who told us they had a very similar experience: they booked through this host, were told their original dates were unavailable, and were moved to another operator’s boat. The AMC Cape Grace excursion itself was perfectly fine, but it was not the experience we selected or paid a significant premium to receive. Had we been told upfront what the replacement actually was, we would not have accepted it and could have booked that exact excursion directly for a fraction of the price. Based on our experience, I seriously question whether the catamaran advertised in this listing was ever actually the tour being provided to us. What we received was transportation plus tickets to another company's existing boat tour at a substantial markup. This operator also has multiple listings for different types of tours, so I would strongly recommend comparing the photos and itinerary details carefully before booking. In particular, I noticed listings using the same photos and providing surprisingly limited details about the actual itinerary and vessel. I would not book with this operator again.

Response from the operator: Dear Customer, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the experience and, in particular, that the replacement arrangement did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify that the change was made because the originally planned vessel was unavailable, and our intention was to provide an alternative boat experience so that your day could still take place as scheduled. We understand, however, that the replacement being operated by another company was not what you had originally expected when booking. We also regret that the information regarding the replacement vessel and operator was not sufficiently clear to you before the excursion. We take your comments seriously and will review how such changes are communicated to our customers in the future. Regarding the price, we would also like to clarify that the amount paid through the booking platform does not correspond solely to the boat excursion itself. The total price also includes the **Viator commission** as well as the **round-trip transportation to and from Antibes**, which was included in the service booked with us. As with many activities booked through an intermediary platform, it is indeed possible to find a lower price by booking certain services directly with local operators. However, this would not include the same booking service and transportation arrangements included in our package. We are pleased to hear that you found the Catamaran excursion itself to be satisfactory, although we fully understand that this does not change the fact that it was different from the experience you originally selected. Thank you again for your detailed feedback. We will take your comments into consideration as we continue to improve our services and the way we communicate any operational changes to our customers.

    Do not book this tour...

Do not book this tour through viator. This is a scam. The boat we booked was supposed to be a small group tour on a luxury catamaran. The pictures were completely fake. Instead, we were booked on a very large commercialized boat. The food and drinks were not good. The scenery was beautiful of course but we were charged over $350 a person whereas if you book through AMC Cape Grace, the actual boat company we went on, it is around €120 a person.

Response from the operator: Dear Customers , Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify that Smartour Riviera acts as a travel service , The boat and service provided correspond to the availability and operating conditions on the date of your excursion. We are particularly sorry that you felt the experience differed from what you expected regarding the type of boat and the group size. We understand that these details are important when booking a boat excursion, and we take your comments regarding the description and photographs very seriously. Regarding the price, rates can vary depending on the booking platform, the services included in the package, transportation, meals, drinks, taxes , commission platform and other arrangements. The price paid through a third-party platform may therefore differ from the direct rate offered by me the boat operator. We regret that the food and drinks did not meet your expectations, although we are pleased that you were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the French Riviera. We appreciate your feedback and will take your comments into consideration as we continue to improve the clarity of our descriptions and the overall guest experience. Kind regards, Anthony

Pleasant but nothing special for the cost

The meeting and pick up was excellent. The tour operator/captain and his assistant were friendly but did not add much to the trip by pointing out local sights or giving information about where we were. I was disappointed by the swim location- it was full of other boated and swimmers - it would have been a much nicer experience to pull in on a secluded cove somewhere than into a busy harbour/ beach area. For me the point of a boat trip was largely to see the beautiful coastline from the water and swim somewhere a little off the beaten track, but this trip did not provide either of these things. It was fairly crowded having 22 people on the boat too. It was over priced for what we got

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that the meeting and pick-up arrangements met your expectations, and we are sorry that some aspects of the boat trip did not fully meet your expectations. Regarding the swimming location and the number of boats and swimmers, we would like to provide some context. August is the very peak of the summer season on the French Riviera, and it is unfortunately not the easiest period to enjoy the coastline away from the crowds. The most beautiful and secluded coves are particularly busy during this time, and maritime regulations, safety requirements and sea conditions also limit the possibility of anchoring wherever we would like. Our captain must therefore select an appropriate and safe location according to the conditions on the day. For guests looking to experience the Côte d’Azur in a quieter and more secluded atmosphere, the months of May, June, September and October are generally much more suitable, with fewer boats and swimmers and a greater possibility of discovering more peaceful areas of the coastline. We also appreciate your comments regarding the information provided by the captain and crew. We will certainly take your feedback into consideration, as we always want our guests to feel that they are not only enjoying the coastline from the water, but also learning more about the beautiful places they are discovering. We are sorry that the experience did not correspond to what you had hoped for, but we sincerely appreciate your honest feedback. It helps us continue to improve our services and better communicate what guests can expect depending on the season. Kind regards,

    Cancelled without reason

Trip got cancelled without reason or explanation. No alternative date offered, not a word. Dissappointing!

Response from the operator: Dear Guest, We are sorry to read your review, but we must correct one important point: **the reason for the cancellation was clearly communicated to you at the time.** Your excursion was cancelled due to an **official weather alert and adverse weather conditions**. As explained in our cancellation message, for safety reasons we cannot operate an excursion when weather conditions may put our guests or our drivers at risk. We therefore cannot agree with the statement that the trip was cancelled “without reason or explanation.” The reason was clearly provided to you when the cancellation was made. Regarding an alternative date, unfortunately weather-related cancellations do not always allow us to offer another departure, particularly depending on availability and the remaining duration of a guest’s stay. We fully understand that a cancellation is disappointing, especially during a holiday. However, **the safety of our guests and our drivers must always come before operating an excursion**, and an official weather alert is something entirely beyond our control. Kind regards,

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Nice.

How much does catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera cost?

    +

Prices start at $205 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Nice usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Nice is not rushed.

Is catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 22 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Nice, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera?

    +

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Nice can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Nice and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does catamaran cruise small group on the French Riviera start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Nice within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Nice?

    +

On Outty we rank every Nice experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include ★ Walking Tour of Old Nice and Castle Hill, NO DIET CLUB - Unique Local Food in Nice !, Nice City Segway Sightseeing Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Nice?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Nice?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
