Amazing paddle I. Casco bay
Very well organized. Paige our guide was very friendly passionate about paddling and very knowledgeable about the areas wild life and history. We have amazing weather and saw harbor and grey seals. Along with many different species of birds including ospreys. The kayaks were very comfortable and sturdy.

Great excursion!
Did a tour as part of a cruise excursion and kayaked out to Fort Gorges. Our guide, Jenny, was amazing! She taught me some new paddling skills and was kind to all of us, regardless of prior kayak experience. I was nervous to kayak in the ocean and she made it feel safe, fun and easy. Highly recommend!

Booked this tour and showed up the day of the tour. The tour operator told me that the tour could not be operated due to high winds - fair enough. She assured my that my booking would be cancelled and that I would get a refund. Well the booking was NOT cancelled and I have NOT received a refund - these people are shady...
Response from the operator: Hi Jim - We're very sorry there was a brief delay with your refund. Since you booked through a third-party, Viator, and they collected your payment, the refund process was slightly more complicated than simply refunding a credit card charge. We informed Viator of the cancellation immediately, and then followed up two days later to make sure you received your refund. At this point they have confirmed that the refund was processed. I assure you that we always refund customers when we cancel tours due to weather. And if you still aren't seeing the refund for some reason, give us a call or email and we'll make sure to fix that. We regret you weren't able to paddle that day too, but the conditions on Casco Bay were much rougher than forecasted, so we made a fairly late decision to cancel . We hope you can join us another time.

The guides were friendly and engaging, brought us a snack for our midway stop, and attentive to our needs and pace.

Great time had by all
My husband and I (ages 49 and 53), along with two other couples who were in their 50s/60s, had a great time with guide Ty on the half-day kayaking tour. He gave is many options on where to go and what to see, and thankfully this group was adventurous and willing to push themselves, because we got to see many seals by crossing the bay. Today, the day after, we are not sore at all because Ty taught us proper technique in paddling. He was also very personable, learned our names immediately, was very respectful of the natural habitats of wildlife, shared anecdotes and history while out on the water, and gave us frequent validations. I highly recommend him as a guide. He also got s huge kick out of me teaching him the southern term scooterpootin', and I hope he uses it moving forward!

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Portland.
How much does Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Portland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Portland is not rushed.
Is Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 60 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Portland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour?
+
Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Portland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Portland and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Casco Bay Half-Day Sea Kayak Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Portland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Portland?
+
Portland sells lighthouse and lobster-boat tours in Casco Bay, Old Port food and brewery walks, seal and puffin cruises, and fall foliage runs up the Maine coast. On Outty we rank every Portland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Real Portland Tour: City and 3 Lighthouses Historical Tour with a Real Local, Portland, Maine: Hidden Histories Guided Walking Tour, A Walk Through Time Tour in Portland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Portland?
+
June to October, with peak foliage in early October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Portland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
