Learned so much about the fascinating history of Cartagena with a friendly smart guide!

I had a wonderful 2 hour walk with my guide through the magnificent historic centre of Cartagena. My guide knew the history of the walled city inside out. I discovered landmarks like the Drake house and the university with a permanent history exhibition on Gabriel Garcia Márquez that I didn’t know existed. I asked so many questions as I am a history buff and he was knowledgeable about everything and his English was perfect. We had access to the gold museum and other such treasures. I highly recommend this walking tour and I feel enriched since taking it.

Response from the operator: Guiding great people like you, makes me love to be a tour guide. It was an honor to show you Cartagena. You're always welcome.

Amazing Guide!

My husband and I had the pleasure of having Henry as our tour guide during my birthday trip to Cartagena, and he made our experience unforgettable. Henry's deep knowledge of the city's history and landmarks was impressive, and he shared fascinating insights throughout our walking tour. His patience was also incredible and appreciated, as he took the time to answer all our questions and never made us feel rushed. Henry also provided fantastic recommendations for the best places to eat and capture stunning photos, enhancing our trip even further. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. Highly recommended!

Response from the operator: We really appreciate that you chose us for your tour in Cartagena. It was great to guide you here.

Make sure you contact the tour guide

If you decide to go on this tour, make sure you contact the tour guide well in advance. In my experience, I never got a response from the tour guide and when I got in contact with Viator, they tried there best to help me out, but with no success. I didn't get a set location nor a start time. So I ended up touring the city of Cartagena on my own. The city is beautiful. I just wish I could have had a tour guide. The reason for the 1 star is because I had to give one, otherwise I would have not given a star at all

Response from the operator: We are really sorry for this. For that date, Cartagena was full and all the tour guides were busy. We tried to contact to cancel the tour, and apparently it was not done through the platform.

Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cartagena.

How much does Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cartagena usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour take?

+

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cartagena is not rushed.

Is Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cartagena, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cartagena can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cartagena and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cartagena History and Culture Private Walking Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cartagena within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cartagena?

+

On Outty we rank every Cartagena experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cartagena Antigua & Barrio Getsemani group with audio system, Historic Center & Getsemaní Shared Tour in Cartagena, Cartagena VIP Boat Tour: Rosario Islands & Snorkel. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cartagena?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cartagena?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
