Awesome experience !

Donovan is the best guide we were a group of 9 and did the lions head hike at sunrise for the first time. We looked at previous reviews before we booked and we so glad we did as we had a great experience with Donovan as our guide. What an amazing experience from start to finish. Donovan communicated with us and answered all our questions the experience was seamless. He even took pics of all of us along the way and at the top and they all came out great!! Thanks for the awesome experience and we all highly recommend Donovan. Thanks!

Climb, cruise and kayaking

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely unforgettable experience – highly recommend Donovan! Donovan O’Neill is an exceptional tour guide and made our time in Cape Town truly unforgettable. From the very beginning, he went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfectly organized for us. He personally recommended a sunset cruise and handled all the bookings seamlessly, which already set the tone for an incredible experience. The highlight, without a doubt, was the kayaking trip he arranged for me and my partner. It was beyond anything we could have imagined. While out on the water, we were lucky enough to see whales, dolphins, penguins, and sea lions — all in one trip. It was absolutely breathtaking and one of the most magical nature experiences we’ve ever had. Donovan’s knowledge, care, and attention to detail made everything stress-free and special. You can tell he genuinely wants people to have the best possible experience, and he delivers on that in every way. I will 100% be coming back, and I’ll be telling everyone I know to book with Donovan and trust whatever he has to offer. If you’re in Cape Town and want a truly memorable experience, Donovan is the person to go with.

A guided hike that goes far beyond expectations

I recently did the sunrise hike up Lion’s Head with Don O’Neale as our guide, and I couldn’t recommend it more. Don is extremely knowledgeable — he shared stories about the history of the mountain, pointed out interesting plants and animals along the trail, and really brought the experience to life. He was also incredibly attentive to everyone’s needs, setting a good pace and making sure no one felt left behind. At the summit, he surprised us with fresh coffee (made right there!) and honey from his own beehive — such a thoughtful touch. I had a minor accident during the descent (twisted my ankle after slipping on a rock), and Don was immediately supportive, checking in with me often and helping me down the steep sections. If you’re considering hiking Lion’s Head, do it with a guide like Don. It adds a completely different dimension to the experience — informative, fun, and safe. Tip: Wear good shoes with grip, and bring a light jacket — it’s windy at the top!

Response from the operator: You guys where a pleasure to host and im truly looking forward to seeing you again!

Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.

How much does Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset cost?

+

Prices start at $1000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cape Town is not rushed.

Is Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cape Town: Lions Head Hike Sunrise or Sunset start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cape Town within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cape Town?

+

On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Penguins Day Tour from Cape Town, Table Mountain, Boulders Penguins and Cape point Day Tour, Wine Tour: Paarl, Franschhoek & Stellenbosch incl 3 wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cape Town?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cape Town?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
