    Deceptive Pricing and No Accountability

Lack of Transparency and Accountability — A Disappointing Experience with Viator and Ontours Sandboarding I recently booked a quad biking and sandboarding experience for six adults through Viator. The total price displayed appeared to be comprehensive, inclusive of all taxes, and gave the impression that no additional charges would apply. However, upon arrival, I was informed by the local operator, Ontours Sandboarding, that there was an additional mandatory fee for a “Nature Reserve Permit.” This fee was not only omitted from the invoice, but was also insufficiently disclosed during the booking process. While a brief note mentioning this permit may have existed deep within the booking section, it lacked visibility, provided no indication of the cost, and failed to specify that it was charged per person — a crucial detail that significantly altered the total price. I addressed this issue directly with the service provider, who stated they lacked authority to issue refunds and referred me to Viator. Viator, in turn, informed me that only Ontours could authorize a refund. Ultimately, Ontours declined, despite redeeming the voucher. As a result, the service was not rendered as expected, and the provider retained full payment. At a minimum, I would have appreciated a partial refund accompanied by a clear explanation. Instead, I was met with conflicting information, a lack of responsibility from both parties, and no resolution. I strongly advise prospective customers to exercise caution when booking through Viator and engaging with Ontours Sandboarding. The absence of transparent pricing, combined with an apparent lack of accountability, reflects poorly on both organizations and creates a highly unsatisfactory customer experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We'd like to encourage all our guests to carefully read the inclusion and exclusion details for any activity before making a booking. This helps avoid situations like this. As clearly stated in the activity description, we operate within a nature reserve, and an entrance permit is required and payable upon arrival. We are unable to provide refunds for services rendered when the client declines to pay these clearly outlined fees, as we incur operational costs, including fuel, to get our team to work and facilitate the activity.

The best of the best experiences in my adventure

I had an absolute blast quad biking today! The adrenaline rush was insane, and the scenic trails were breathtaking. The guides were super friendly, helpful, and made sure we were safe throughout the ride. The quads were well-maintained, and the instruction was clear and concise. I loved the mix of fast-paced sections and more technical parts of the trail – it was an exhilarating experience from start to finish! Whether you're a thrill-seeker or just looking for a fun adventure, I highly recommend giving quad biking a try. I'll definitely be back for more!

    Amazing trip

Tendai was an amazing host. The sand boarding was one of our favourite experiences while in Cape Town and I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. Definitely get the package with the jeep to drive you back to the top and you’ll have a better experience like we did.

    Best part of Cape Town

Tendai picked us up from our hotel in Cape Town and brought us out to the Atlantis dunes. We were celebrating our two year anniversary and we had A BLAST. Tendai was very accommodating and super friendly. The views from the top of the dunes were incredible and the sand boarding itself was very fun and an all around great experience. I’d recommend for anyone who is visiting Cape Town to check it out!

Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.

How much does Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture cost?

    +

Prices start at $57 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture take?

    +

Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cape Town is not rushed.

Is Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cape Town Dessert Thrill-Dune Jeep Venture start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cape Town within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cape Town?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape Town: Lion's Head Sunrise/Sunset Hike, Cape Town Airport Private Transfer, Ocean Wildlife Encounter in Cape Town. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cape Town?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cape Town?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
