    About this experience

The lacy coastal road that begins in the Athenian suburb of Glyfada and winds its way through Vouliagmeni and Lagonisi to reach Cape Sounio is one of Attica’s most sublime routes. Small beaches with their sandy shores or rocky stretches, crystal-clear sparkling water and a perfectly blue sky accompany you along the way and delight the senses, mind and soul of anyone taking this gorgeous route to get to one of Greece’s most idyllic spots, Cape Sounio. From a distance, your gaze is captivated by the ruins of the temple of Poseidon, commanding, stunning, a characteristic example of classical architecture of the 5th century BC. This is the spot that the ancient Athenians chose to honor their god Poseidon, within a fortress constructed to protect their coastline. Millions of visitors from around the globe also come here to gaze upon the sun setting into the arms of the Saronic Gulf. A memory that stays with them for a lifetime...

    The trip to Cape Sunio...

The trip to Cape Sunio was a nice break from exploring downtown Athens. We booked a 6:00 start and arrived at the perfect time to explore the area for a hour and then relax and see the sunset over the water. The drive to Sunio was beautiful along the coast and allowed us to see more of the area. So glad we booked a driver in a comfortable and clean van that easily fit our family of 4 rather than rent a car. Our driver George was a highlight! He was an excellent driver and had so much knowledge of the area and history of Greece. We enjoyed the conversation over the course of the drive. It was the perfect end to our Greece vacation.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear that your Cape Sounio tour was the perfect way to end your Greece vacation. It's wonderful that you enjoyed the beautiful coastal drive, the sunset, and the comfort of the journey. George will be delighted to know that his safe driving, local knowledge, and great conversation made such a positive impression. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome your family back to Greece again soon!

    Just do it!

Fantastic trip. Our driver was knowledgeable putting out things and giving information as we drove the 1 1/2 hours from the port to the temple. Be sure to arrive before sunset as the views are spectacular. Be forewarned that it gets cold and windy very quickly at sunset. We traveled 4/28. We opted for the Greek dinner. The owner was friendly and the food good. You had your choice of any items on the menu plus beer or wine. This trip was our one splurge and worth it.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us. Your kind words truly mean a lot to our team and motivate us to continue providing the best possible service to our guests. It was our pleasure to be part of your trip to Greece, and we hope to welcome you again in the future! Thank you once again for choosing us.

    GREAT TOUR!!!

Our tour guide, George, was absolutely incredible. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the entire country — from ancient times all the way through modern day. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with him all the way up to Poseidon. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better guide!

Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food cost?

    +

Prices start at $29 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 133 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food?

    +

Around 47 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cape Sounio Private Tour From Athens with Greek Traditional Food start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
