As a private excursion, this tour can be tailored entirely to your preferences. However we recommend an early morning departure to make the most of the soft coastal light as you travel along the scenic Cape Peninsula toward Cape Point Nature Reserve. The circular route from Cape Town covers approximately 180 km, following the Atlantic Seaboard with its pristine white beaches and dramatic ocean views. By mid-morning, you’ll arrive at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve at the tip of the peninsula, with time to explore and walk up to the historic lighthouse. You will also visit the iconic Cape of Good Hope, the southwestern most point of Africa and the legendary meeting place of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Returning along the eastern side of the peninsula, the journey continues with a visit to the famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach, followed by the lush landscapes of Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. We will travel along the Atlantic seaboard, driving between the mountains and the ocean our first photo stop will be at Maiden's Cove beautiful scenic lookout point nestled between Clifton's beaches and the prestigious suburb of Camps Bay in Cape Town.

The second stop of the day Hout Bay harbor perched on the edge of the ocean. You will have the option of taking an exciting 40 minute boat cruise boat to a seal colony where you can view thousands of wild Cape Fur Seals in their natural habitat alternatively enjoying a walk along the quay with yachts and fishing boats dotting here and there.

You may encounter some baboons and other wildlife such as Bontebok, Cape Eland, Cape Mountain Zebra and with over 250 species of birdlife we must keep our eyes open.

Once at Cape Point enough time will be allowed to hike up to the top to see the Cape Point lighthouse or take the funicular, before joining the optional hike from Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope.

Boulders Beach Penguin Colony
Driving out of the Cape Point Nature Reserve our next stop situated along the False Bay coastline is the famous Boulders Penguins Colony near Simon's Town. The place gets its name from the huge and ancient granite boulders along the coast. This picturesque area is home to a colony of some 3000 delightful African Penguins. A boardwalk runs from Foxy Beach to Boulders Beach, where you can get down on the sand and mingle with the penguins but don't be tempted to pet them they have sharp beaks that can cause serious injuries.

Simon's Town
After our visit at Boulders beach and the African Penguin colony our drive back to Cape Town take us through the picturesque coastal naval town of Simon's Town located on the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula for a coffee stop time permitting.

★★★★★ An unforgettable cycling adventure around Cape of Good Hope One of the absolute highlights of our July/August 2026 family trip to South Africa was the cycling tour around Cape Point with Patrick Hendriks from Cape Escape Tours. The route was simply spectacular, taking us along the iconic Chapman's Peak Drive, through the stunning landscapes of Table Mountain National Park and onwards to the breathtaking scenery of Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. To round off an already fantastic day, we visited Boulders Beach and its famous penguin colony. The combination of spectacular ocean views, wildlife (including whales, baboons, ostrich, bontebok) and dramatic landscapes made this a truly unforgettable experience. Patrick was an exceptional guide. What impressed us most was his incredible breadth of knowledge. Whether it was history, nature, wildlife, culture or current affairs, Patrick seemed to know everything about everything and generously shared his stories and insights throughout the day. His passion for South Africa is contagious, and his fascinating explanations added a whole new dimension to the experience. Equally important, safety was always paramount. Throughout the ride, Patrick was attentive, well prepared and constantly aware of the group and the surroundings. His calm professionalism allowed us to relax and fully enjoy the experience, knowing we were in excellent hands. The bicycles were top-notch and maintained in excellent condition, which further enhanced the experience and gave us complete confidence throughout the ride. He struck the perfect balance between guiding, informing and giving us time to enjoy the surroundings. Professional, friendly and attentive, he adapted the pace to suit our family and made everyone feel comfortable and welcome. The highlight of our time in Cape Town!
Our bike tour of the cape was the highlight of our trip in South Africa. Patrick not only covered all of the highlights of the peninsula but also showed us a few local spots as well. He was very laid back and accommodating to whatever pace or level of intensity we wanted. He provided valuable insight on what to do for the rest of our time in Cape Town. Top notch bikes. The views during the tour were absolutely stunning and should not be missed on any trip to Cape Town. A must do!
