It is well known for; its exquisite views of the Twelve Apostles and Table Mountain, as well as its fabulous views of the Atlantic Ocean and Camps Bay beach. The Cove is also notorious for its braai/barbecue areas. Maiden’s Cove has a lush grassy area, massive boulders, perfect for a braai, picnic or sunset watching. Dolphins can often be spotted frolicking in the water; it’s also fantastic for whale watching (June-November). Old Cape Point Lighthouse
Cape Point is the small cape jutting out towards the east from The Cape of Good Hope at the southern end of the Cape Peninsula. The Point has been treated with respect by sailors and navigators. The lighthouse on top of the pick is historically a landmark of great navigational value until the introduction of radar. At night ships had to approach closely to obtain bearings and thereby were exposed to the dangers of Bellows Rock and Albatross Rock nearby. This is a famous monument of the only dog -Great Dane- in SA, ever to be enlisted in the Royal Navy shore establishment in Simon’s Town between 1939 and 1944. Able Seaman ‘Just Nuisance’ was rating with rank, pay, rations and duties – the same privileges as any other rating with the same rank. of ‘Able Seaman’ (AB)served at HMS Afrikander, a Royal Navy, South Africa. He died in 1944 at the age of seven years and was buried with full military honors.
