This full-day expedition bridges the gap between the ancient desert and the cutting-edge future, focusing exclusively on the Giza Plateau and its "fourth pyramid," the **Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)**. Your private guide will reveal the secrets of the Sphinx and the Valley Temple, providing a deep dive into the engineering of the Old Kingdom. Afternoon: The Grand Egyptian Museum Leaving the sands, you enter the world's largest archaeological complex. The experience is centered on: * **The Colossus of Ramses II:** A 3,200-year-old giant greeting you in the sun-drenched atrium. * **The Grand Staircase:** A vertical gallery of 60 monumental statues leading you toward the plateau view. * **Tutankhamun’s Treasures:** For the first time, all 5,000+ artifacts from the Boy King's tomb—including his chariots and gold mask—are displayed in one breathtaking collection.

  2. The Great Pyramid of Khufu

the oldest and largest of the three, built around 2560 BCE for the pharaoh Khufu. Rising originally to about 146 meters from some 2.3 million limestone blocks, it stood as the tallest structure made by human hands for nearly four thousand years. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing. The smooth white casing that once made it gleam is gone, quarried away over the centuries, leaving the stepped core you see today.

  3. Pyramid Complex of Khafre

built for Khufu's son, is the one most travelers photograph first — not because it is taller, but because it looks it. It sits on higher bedrock, and it still wears a cap of original casing stones near its summit, the only pyramid at Giza to keep that crown. Khafre's complex also gave us the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple below it, tying the monument to the face that guards the plateau.

  4. Pyramid of Menkaure

the smallest of the three, built for Khafre's successor at roughly half the height of the Great Pyramid. Its lower courses were sheathed in red granite hauled up the Nile from Aswan, some of which still clings to the base. A deep vertical scar on its north face marks a failed medieval attempt to dismantle it — the pyramid simply outlasted the effort.

  6. Grand Egyptian Museum

Standing as a monumental bridge between Egypt’s past and future, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is the undisputed crown jewel of your Cairo expedition. Spanning over 500,000 square meters, this architectural marvel offers a serene transition from modern chaos to the majesty of the Giza Plateau, which remains perfectly framed through soaring glass walls. The GEM Experience Your journey begins at the feet of the Colossal Ramses II, a 3,200-year-old giant commanding the atrium. As you ascend the Grand Staircase, you'll walk through a vertical timeline of Pharaonic history. The climax is the Tutankhamun Galleries, where his entire 5,000-piece funerary treasure is displayed together for the first time in history. Why it works: Pairing the GEM with the Pyramids gives "soul" to the stones. The Vibe: High-concept design meets ancient mysticism—think Indiana Jones in a glass palace. Comfort: Between galleries, enjoy world-class dining or the lush gardens overlooking the Sphinx.

Fabulous

This was a perfect tour for our one-day layover in Cairo. The guides were very flexible with their timing and were able to accommodate our flight delay. The tour was extremely well-organized and allowed us to see and learn lots about each sight. There were a few shopping stops, but they were interesting and we never felt pressured to buy anything. The lunch stop was surprisingly good relative to other similar tours I have taken in other parts of the world. Most of all, our guides Mimo and Peter were phenomenal and made our day one to remember. I would highly recommend this tour!

Amazing experience- we...

Amazing experience- we were taken to experience as much as we possibly could in the time we had in Cairo. Zenab was lovely and very knowledgeable and catered the day especially to us, letting us choose where we visited, what we did and how much time we spent. I would 100% recommend and will certainly reach back out should we ever visit Egypt again as there is still plenty to do🥰 Thank you

Our spanish guide Moshira...

Our spanish guide Moshira was great and explained everything with a lot of passion. We had a private tour and he could adapt to our flight restrictions, which were slightly different from the options available.

Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cairo.

How much does Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum cost?

+

Prices start at $28 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cairo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cairo is not rushed.

Is Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 59 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cairo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 8-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum?

+

Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cairo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cairo and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Cairo Layover Tour: Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cairo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cairo?

+

On Outty we rank every Cairo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include All-in-One Giza Tour, inside Pyramid, sphinx, Camel ride & lunch, VIP Private Giza Pyramids, Sphinx Tour –Inside the Pyramids&More, Giza Pyramids all inclusive,Sphinx, lunch,Camel, insid pyramid. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cairo?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cairo?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
