(Mostly) great tours with Cat Ba discoveries
We booked three services with Cat Ba discoveries: 1) transport Hanoi - Cat Ba 2) Cat ba bay tour with Serenity Cruises 3) transport Cat Ba - Ninh Binh 1) was excellent. Our driver drove slowly and safely and we were accompanied by a member of their staff who helpfully explained our journey and answered any of our questions. 2) was excellent. Our guide was excellent and very attentive. He took us through the kayaking tour and bicycle tour in Cat Ba national park and taught us a lot about life in Cat Ba. The boat itself was in a great condition and the lunch prepared by one of their chefs exceeded our expectations (yum). The entire staff was extremely friendly and attentive. They also arranged for us to sit with other travellers near our age which made the experience even more wholesome. 3) was a huge disappointment. Given our two very positive previous experiences with Cat Ba discoveries we weren’t expecting this trip to go so badly. No one from their staff accompanied us this time and we were left in the dark in terms of the different stages of our trip. Our driver was speeding and driving very dangerously which made us very uncomfortable. The worst of all was when we entered the ferry with the bus and we were told that we were basically trapped in the bus for the entire duration of the ferry journey (25 mins) because the doors were trapped by other vehicles parked in the ferry. As initially we had been told that we would be allowed to get out of the bus and considering the safety hazard that this posed, we protested to the driver quite forcefully so he managed to move the bus and let us out. The rest of the journey was uncomfortable as the driver kept speeding.
