    Wonderful Kekoldi waterfall hike experience

I did the Kekoldi hike with Sheilo and it was a wonderful experience! Reaching the waterfall required a 2-3 hour hike through indigenous territory. In the beginning of our hike it was raining a little but it made the forest even more mystical. The waterfall looked so magestic! It was also a lot cooler there compared to the rest of the forest and also a lot less humid. We almost had this little paradise to ourselfs since there were no other visitors. We took a swim and rested for a while. In the afternoon we returned and made a stop at the house of native Bribri people where we were offered a delicious lunch. Sheilo was very helpful the whole time and knew a lot about the forest. I would definitely recommend this tour!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really happy you enjoyed the adventure and got to experience the magic of Kekoldi. Sharing my paradise, our culture, and the beauty of the rainforest with people like you is what makes my work so special. I’m grateful you chose me as your guide! Thank you for helping our local family business. Pura Vida, Shailo

    One of the best!!

Shailo was one of the most amazing tour guides I’ve ever had the pleasure of exploring with. My group did 3 tours with Shailo - the BriBri indigenous cacao tour, snorkeling and a hike through Cahuita, and finally a night walk in Manzanillo. He is so knowledgeable about everything in Costa Rica. The animals, the culture, the history, and the science behind it all. Such a wonderful person who was so accommodating throughout our entire experience. Highly recommend!!

Response from the operator: Highly appreciated for the excellent comment! It truly makes me proud to know that the three experiences we shared — the Bribri cacao tour, snorkeling and hiking in Cahuita, and the night walk in Manzanillo — fulfilled your expectations and left you with such memorable experiences. It was a real pleasure spending time with your group and sharing my knowledge about the wildlife, culture, history, and nature of Costa Rica and our South Caribbean. Knowing that you enjoyed each experience so much is one of the most rewarding parts of being a guide. Thank you very much for your trust, your kind recommendation, and for supporting our local family business. I’m truly grateful that you chose me as your guide! Pura vida, Shailo

An Unforgettable and Authentic Bribri Cultural Experience!

Thanks to Shailo’s deep roots and close relationships with the Bribri community, we had the opportunity to experience their culture in a truly personal and meaningful way. We learned so much about their rich traditions and were able to immerse ourselves in the traditional chocolate-making process while discovering how native plants are used, how baskets are woven, and how stories and knowledge are passed down through generations. What made this experience so special was the genuine connection Shailo has with the community, which allowed us to gain a deeper appreciation for the Bribri people, their traditions, and their way of life. It felt like so much more than a tour—it was an opportunity to connect, learn, and experience a beautiful culture firsthand. This was truly an experience unlike any other and one of the highlights of our time in Costa Rica. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

Response from the operator: Hearing how meaningful this experience was for you, and how deeply you connected with the Bribri community, means a lot to me. Each traveler brings something special to this experience and helps make it even more authentic. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to share the knowledge and traditions of the community, from traditional chocolate making and basket weaving to the use of medicinal plants and the many other ways they preserve their ancestral knowledge. It is truly fulfilling to see people from different parts of the world appreciate their culture and learn directly from their traditions. And just as I hope you take something meaningful from these experiences, I also continue learning from each of you and the way you connect with what we share. I’m especially proud to hear that this was one of the highlights of your time in Costa Rica. Knowing that you will carry these memories with you makes the experience even more special. Thank you for your kind words and for supporting our local family business. Your support means a great deal to us. Pura vida! Shailo

    Amazing

Shailo is absolutely amazing! I had so much fun on this tour. I learned more on this tour than any other. I was the only one so I drove with him to and from the farm. He stopped when he saw an animal. This was really an eye opening experience for how the bribri live and respecting the plants. Make sure you ask Shailo if you can try some bribra!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for describing me as an amazing person. Your words truly mean a lot to me. I had so much fun on the tour too, and it makes me very happy to know that this was one of the best tours you’ve experienced. For me, it’s very important to make the most of our time together, make the experience interesting, and share more than just what you see along the way. Knowing that this experience had such an important meaning for you and that you connected with the Bribri culture and its significance is what I enjoy most about being a guide. Thank you for choosing me and for supporting our local family business. It truly means a lot to us. Pura vida!

Amazing probe of the life of indigenous people in Bribri

This was one of the best tours that we took during our 3-weeks-long trip to Costa Rica! It has to be stressed that it was not only about chocolate - we were provided a tour in the large garden of the indigenous famili in Bribri and many different plants and their usuage to them were described to us. Moreover, our guide described us the current life of local people in this area and how they prepare for the future... Finally, of course, we have experienced the proces of the chocolate making, as the indigenous people do it till present. Strongly recommended!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful and thoughtful review! It truly means a lot to us to know that this experience was one of the highlights of your three-week trip through Costa Rica. We’re especially happy that you appreciated that the experience goes beyond chocolate and gave you the opportunity to learn about the Bribri culture, the plants and their traditional uses, and the life and future of the local community. It was a pleasure sharing this special experience with you, and we’re grateful that you took the time to recommend us. Thank you for supporting our local family business and for helping us share and preserve these beautiful cultural traditions. Pura vida!
