About this experience

We are the only company in Belfast that can offer this combo tour that includes both the black taxi tour and the Crumlin Road Gaol Tour. We are the only Cab Tour company in Belfast that is jointly owned by Catholic and Protestant owners that give a fair, balanced and non-biased tour. Delve into the history of our wonderful city in one of our famous Black Taxi Tours. Hear the stories behind our tumultuous history from our local guides. Belfast was not on everyone’s list of cities to visit when we received global coverage of the violence here. Now, our city has lots to offer; from great hotels to Michelin Star restaurants, and a flourishing nightlife. All of this can be enjoyed with some Belfast craic and banter.

  2. Taxi tour of Belfast wall murals of the shankill road and the falls road as well as taking in the peace wall in West belfast

90 minutes here · Admission included

  3. Shankill Road

Your Belfast Murals Tour begins in the Shankill Road area of Belfast which is (Protestant/British), where your Black Taxi Cab driver will explain a detailed history of the area. We begin in 1690, when William of orange arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998. You will go for a short walk around the area, where your black taxi cab driver will explain the loyalist murals Belfast has in the area and what they represent. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the Belfast murals.

  4. Peace Wall

The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Nationalist) and Protestant (Unionist) populations in Belfast. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of violence in 1969 in Northern Ireland. They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature, they were built higher, longer, and made permanent and are still here today. The peace walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.

  5. International Mural Wall Divis Street

The final stop will be the International Wall, where you will see a variety of different murals in Belfast. The murals have a general theme of ‘highlighting oppression’ – from the race riots in America in 1969 to current events in Palestine.

Black Taxi Belfast Tour and Crumlin Gaol Tour Combo

Our Black Cab Tour of Belfast was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Ireland. Our guide, Bran, grew up during the Troubles and shared not only the history of the Falls Road, Shankill Road, Peace Walls and memorials, but his own extraordinary experiences of living through that time. Bran’s family background gave him a very personal perspective on both sides of the divide, and hearing his childhood memories while standing in the actual streets where these events happened was incredibly powerful. He was open, engaging and happy to answer all our questions without making the tour feel like a history lecture. We also added the Crumlin Road Gaol tour to our Black Cab experience, which was well worth doing and complemented the tour perfectly Seeing the murals and memorials, hearing the stories behind them and signing the Peace Wall was something we won’t forget. If you want to understand Belfast beyond the usual tourist sights, we would highly recommend this tour.

Insightful and thought provoking look at recent histories

Exceptional tour. Very insightful & thought provoking. The information issued & gleaned about the Troubles was so interesting and gave a real insight into this ongoing history. The gaol tour is very well done and a coffee, tasting & cake in Wing A - now occupied by O’Connells Distillery was the perfect end to a “must see” experience.

Excellent tour with Jordy!

Our tour guide Jordy was kind, informed, and engaging as he led us through the conflict in Belfast. We learned so much (even as avid history buffs). It was easy to connect with Jordy at our meetup point and our tour didn't feel rushed even as we saw so many things. Our teen really enjoyed the stops to get out and explore some of the sites. We all found it so insightful and reflective. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Belfast.

Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Belfast.

How much does Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo cost?

+

Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Belfast usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Belfast is not rushed.

Is Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 198 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Belfast, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo?

+

Around 69 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Belfast can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Belfast and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Black Taxi Tour and Crumlin Road Gaol Tour Combo start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Belfast within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Belfast?

+

On Outty we rank every Belfast experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include A History of Terror - Belfast City Centre Walking Tour, Belfast Troubles Tour: Walls and Bridges, Giants Causeway and Castles from Belfast: Guided Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Belfast?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Belfast?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
