What you get

    About this experience

Our daytime historic tour is a story of Pirates and Puritans, Witchcraft and War.  We travel around the city of Salem and share the tales of its amazing history.  From its humble beginnings as a city founded on the idea of peace for all, to the site of the largest incident of witchcraft hysteria in the modern world, learn how it became one of the biggest shipping ports in America, played host to some of the most famous authors of all time, and learn some of the biggest secrets this city has to offer! Our daytime walking tour lasts about an hour and forty five minutes, and covers a mile's worth of the downtown area. It is an easy walk, but we suggest comfortable shoes and clothing to match the season. Our tours are unscripted, and can be customized to every group's particular areas of interest!

    Tour was flat

Tour was very flat/slow. Saw a few buildings, a cemetery and several spots that were something long ago. Salem in general was disappointing, not what I expected. Downtown felt almost suburban. Witch trials stories weren’t that interesting.

Fun & Interesting time in Salem

We had an excellent guide (Vincent) and had fun on the tour and learned a lot of interesting details and even some fun facts around the history of Salem and the witch trials. The final site at the cemetery was very impactful and walked away with a sense of what society was like at the time

Great overview of the history of Salem. Very informative.

Took an historical tour lead by our guide Daniel. I would highly recommend the tour. I would suggest a tour like this early in your visit to Salem, before going from one museum to the next, as it will give you a good overview of the historical sites that Salem has to offer. Daniel was a good, enthusiastic speaker that kept your attention and he seemed very knowledgeable about the history of Salem.

Great tour with facts you don’t get elsewhere.

Great history tour given by a guide who really knew the history of Salem and the witch trials. He straightened out some false storylines we heard at the Witch Museum. Really great tour.

Black Cat Historical Day Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salem.

How much does Black Cat Historical Day Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $28 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salem usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Black Cat Historical Day Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salem is not rushed.

Is Black Cat Historical Day Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 355 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salem, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Black Cat Historical Day Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Black Cat Historical Day Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Black Cat Historical Day Tour?

    +

Around 124 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salem can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salem and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Black Cat Historical Day Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salem within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Salem?

    +

Salem runs witch trial history tours, ghost and cemetery walks, museum entries and harbour trips, with October turning the whole town into a month-long event. On Outty we rank every Salem experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include History and Hauntings of Salem Guided Walking Tour, Satanic Salem Walking Tour, Salem Voodoo, Vampires, and Ghosts Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Salem?

    +

September to October for atmosphere, May to June for smaller crowds. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Salem?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
