Wonderful day of birding Kirstenbosch and Strandfontein
Spent a full day with Alfie firstly walking through the Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens in the morning followed by a comprehensive drive exploring all of the ponds and areas at Strandfontein. If you're looking for a friendly, knowledgeable and professional guide to take you out birding around the Cape then Alfie is your man!! As a first time visitor to South Africa and bird "lister", I had spent a few days in J'berg and the Eastern Cape before coming to Cape Town and Alfie took this as a personal challenge to make sure that we saw as many birds in one day here as I did in each of the other areas..... and Alfie proved to be right up to the challenge!! The birding God's were smiling on us as Alfie quickly and effectively located target after target. Even the flamingos showed up in big numbers!! Absolutely a fantastic day without fault. Highly recommended!!
Response from the operator: Thank for the kind words and feedback Peter. So glad that you enjoyed your day with me.

Great day out - 11 hours of birding!
Thank you for helping me reach the 400-bird milestone! Your knowledge, keen eye and genuine passion for birding are exceptional. I especially appreciated the humble, unassuming way you shared your expertise. A fantastic guide who made the experience truly memorable.

Great Birding Tour in Cape Town!
My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful day birding with Alfie. He is extremely knowledgeable, and he went above and beyond to make certain that we had time to see every possible bird species throughout the day. He also provided a lot of information about the flora we saw at the Gardens. In all, we saw 73 bird species on this winter day. We highly recommend this tour for any bird lover!
Response from the operator: Hi Steve. I am so glad that you enjoyed our day out. Thank you for the review.

We had an outstanding day...
We had an outstanding day birding in Cape Town. Alfie was an exceptional guide—friendly, patient, and impressively knowledgeable—able to spot and identify birds with ease and share fascinating insights about their behavior and habitats. Our morning walking around at Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden was beautiful and productive. In the afternoon we visited Strandfontein Sewage Works—an unexpectedly superb site for birding despite its surroundings—and it delivered fantastic wetland and wader sightings, including flamingos which we did not expect. Altogether we recorded over 80 species, making the tour both rewarding and memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cape Town who wants an expert-led, top-quality birding experience.

Bird Watching June 2026
Had an incredible time on two back-to-back bird watching days led by Alfie! He was promptly on time both mornings and we managed to somehow get to exactly 100 different species of birds, blowing past our old record for new Lifers - and this was in the South African winter! We did luckily have unseasonably great weather. Would highly recommend this tour!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your review Lauren. So glad you had a good time

Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Birdwatching in Cape Town: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.
How much does Birdwatching in Cape Town cost?
+
Prices start at $2000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Birdwatching in Cape Town take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cape Town is not rushed.
Is Birdwatching in Cape Town worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 29 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Birdwatching in Cape Town?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Birdwatching in Cape Town suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 8-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Birdwatching in Cape Town?
+
Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Birdwatching in Cape Town start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cape Town within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cape Town?
+
On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Penguins Day Tour from Cape Town, Table Mountain, Boulders Penguins and Cape point Day Tour, Wine Tour: Paarl, Franschhoek & Stellenbosch incl 3 wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cape Town?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cape Town?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
