Serious Safety Concerns — Poor Equipment and No Assistance After Injury
I have never previously left a negative review for any of the tours I have booked through Tripadvisor. I am writing this because I want other travelers to be aware of my experience, and I hope the tour company will take it seriously, thoroughly inspect its equipment, and review its procedures for responding when a guest is injured. I booked two tour packages, one for my son and one for me. The first bike provided to me did not have a rear hand brake, while my son’s bike had both front and rear hand brakes. After riding for approximately five minutes, I did not feel safe on it and asked for a different bike. The tour guide contacted the office, and an employee brought the yellow replacement bike shown in the photo. Although the bike did not appear very sturdy, I accepted it because I did not want to further delay the tour. The black bike next to it in the photo is my son’s bike, and the difference in their condition is clearly visible. The yellow replacement bike appeared to be in poorer condition than public city rental bikes I have used in major cities. More importantly, the handlebars on the replacement bike felt unusually loose and light compared with the first bike. This caught me by surprise because I was expecting a similar level of handling and control. As soon as I got on and began riding, I had difficulty controlling the bike, lost control, fell, and twisted my knee. After the fall, the tour continued. I got back on the bike and attempted to continue for approximately another five minutes. I then began experiencing numbness in my leg. At the next stop, I told the guide that I could not continue and needed to leave the tour. What concerned me just as much as the equipment was the response after my fall. The guide did not ask about the extent of my injury, whether I needed medical assistance, or how I was feeling. Her primary concern appeared to be arranging for the bikes to be returned. I am currently at the hospital having my knee examined. My knee has become significantly swollen, and I cannot lift my leg or put weight on it. Please see the attached photo. I understand that accidents can happen. My purpose in writing this review is not simply to complain, but to make other travelers aware of what happened and, hopefully, to prevent someone else from having a similar experience. I also sincerely hope the company will take this incident seriously, inspect and maintain its bikes more carefully, and establish clear procedures for assisting guests when an injury occurs.
Response from the operator: This review does not reflect what happened on our tour. The bicycles referred to were new (2 weeks old !) and checked. Within the first minutes, you stated that the bicycle was “not good”, however it became clear that the issue was not the bicycle, but that you did not know how to use the brakes properly. We provided another new bicycle, but the same problem remained: you and your son were unable to ride with basic control (braking/steering) in city traffic. This created an immediate safety risk for you, the guide, and the rest of the group. For that reason, our guide intervened and you did not continue the bike tour with the group. We also need to be clear: no fall or injury was reported to our guide during the tour, and no accident was observed by our team. A bike tour in Vienna requires guests to be able to ride confidently and safely in traffic. If that is not the case, we will stop participation—because safety comes first.

Excellent tour!
Excellent Tour! Karin was brilliant; she was lively, funny, personal & so knowledgeable. Since we had such a small group, she gave us an extra stop and very thorough descriptions of sights. Would highly recommend!

Why this scores 83
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vienna.
How much does Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete cost?
+
Prices start at $35 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vienna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vienna is not rushed.
Is Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 83 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 469 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vienna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete?
+
Around 164 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vienna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vienna and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Bicycle tour - Vienna Complete start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vienna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Vienna?
+
On Outty we rank every Vienna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Authentic Vienna Food Tour inc. lunch, street food, 3 drinks, Vienna Food Tour: Coffeehouses, Markets, Lunch & Street Food, Budapest Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Vienna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Vienna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
