Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market
Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace is an 18th-century teakwood structure built during the Mysore Kingdom. Known for its carved pillars, arches, and painted ceilings, it served as a seasonal residence for Tipu Sultan and his court. As this is a protected monument, a government-certified site guide provides an introduction to the architecture, the audience hall, and how the palace was used during Tipu’s time. You will also hear additional historical context about Tipu Sultan, his family, and the Mysore rulers who shaped this period. The palace offers a brief but meaningful glimpse into Bengaluru’s early political and cultural history.

Bangalore Fort
Originally built as a mud fort in 1537 by Kempegowda—the founder of Bengaluru—it was later strengthened in stone by Hyder Ali in the 18th century. Only a small portion survives today, but this site still marks the birthplace of the city and its earliest political struggles. During this stop, I walk you through: How the fort evolved under different rulers Its role during the Mysore–British conflicts Why this small remaining fragment is still historically important A short but meaningful window into Bengaluru’s origins.

Cubbon Park
Named after Sir Mark Cubbon, this 300-acre park is where Bengaluru truly breathes. We make a short stop of about 45 minutes to an hour here — a gentle walk to soak in the atmosphere, enjoy the greenery, and pause at iconic landmarks. Along the way, I share delightful, surprising, and even funny stories about Cubbon Park — how it evolved, who shaped it, and the role it played in making Bengaluru the city it is today.

Vidhana Soudha and Attara Kacheri
These two iconic structures face each other across a ceremonial boulevard — a visual dialogue between old Bangalore and the new Karnataka. We pause here for a short walk and a relaxed photo session, taking in: • Vidhana Soudha — an architectural and engineering marvel, celebrated as one of India’s grandest legislative buildings • Attara Kacheri (High Court of Karnataka) — the striking red colonial-era structure directly opposite it While visitors cannot enter the premises due to security restrictions, viewing them together is an experience in itself. The placement of these two buildings has a story — a deliberate choice that reveals much about Bengaluru’s aspirations, identity, and political history. During this stop, I share the immersive and lesser-known stories behind their construction, symbolism, and their place in Bengaluru’s evolving narrative. This is where the city’s past and present stand face-to-face.
30 minutes here
Cauvery Handicrafts
Our final stop is Cauvery Emporium, Karnataka’s iconic state-run handicrafts store on MG Road. This is where you find authentic, government-certified art and craft — no replicas, no imitations. From genuine Mysore sandalwood carvings (each with an official registration number) to hand-painted artefacts, traditional textiles, metal crafts, and unique Karnataka souvenirs, this is the perfect place to pick up meaningful gifts for your home or family.

Insightful exploration
We had a wonderful day exploring Bangalore with Ashwini. What I really loved about her approach is that even though the trip was Bangalore-specific and we visited many places within the city, her storytelling was never limited to just Bangalore. Through her narratives, I actually got a much broader orientation — from understanding the Wodeyars and their role in Karnataka, to British history, and even larger connections to Indian history as a whole. It was incredibly enriching and gave me a much deeper context than I expected from a city tour. If you are truly a history lover, then Ashwini is the best! I highly recommend her!!

Amazing experience of Bangalore!!
Ashwini is a wonderful knowledge bank, and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Bangalore with her. As someone who is not originally from this city, I learned so much that I had never known before. One insight that really stayed with me was her explanation of how Bangalore, despite being geographically disadvantaged compared to coastal cities like Bombay, still evolved into such an important and thriving city. The way she connected geography, history, and decision-making over time was fascinating and gave me a completely new perspective. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone who wants to know Bangalore well.

Adventurous learning about Bangalore
One of my friends suggested we try this heritage experience with Ashwini, and we immediately jumped at the idea. I’m so glad we did. As women, our usual outings are often malls or potlucks, so this felt genuinely different and a little adventurous. Despite living in Bangalore for many years, I had never visited places like Tipu Sultan’s Palace or Bangalore Fort. The fort may be small, but it’s incredibly significant—and the way Ashwini narrated its history felt less like a lesson and more like a human story. That’s what I appreciated most: it never felt academic, it felt alive. Tipu Sultan’s Palace was beautiful, especially the teakwood interiors and arches, and we got some lovely photos there. Even places we thought we knew well—Lal Bagh, Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, and the High Court—felt completely different when seen through her stories and perspective. I genuinely feel I understand my own city better after this experience. I truly hope she extends these tours beyond Bangalore—if she ever does a Hampi tour, I’d happily join with my family and kids.

Best experience exploring Bengaluru’s history.
I’m a history enthusiast myself and follow several historians on Instagram, including Ashwini. So, when I finally got the opportunity to explore Bangalore with her, I was curious to know a lot more about the places that i heard about and had a lot of questions. Ashwini really impressed me by patiently and passionately answering my every single question. Her knowledge, warmth, and genuine love for the city really stands out. I wish her all the very best and would definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking to explore Bangalore with meaning and depth. Looking forward to explore more places with Ashwini!

Awesome tour with Ashwini.. Had a really great time in understanding the culture and heritage of Banglore..
Ashwini is extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful host. She has a very warm way of engaging with people, and her depth of understanding really stands out. I’ve been following Ashwini on Instagram for a while, but what surprised me most was the way she notices and explains small nuances on site. While walking through Bangalore Fort, she pointed out differences in architectural styles — identifying Mughal influences linked to Hyder Ali and contrasting stonework that suggested earlier rulers. She even explained Hoysala carvings, like the Sala motif, with such clarity and ease. We visited Tipu Sultan’s Palace, Bangalore Fort, Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, and Vidhana Soudha, and every place came alive through her storytelling. You can truly sense how much she has read, observed, and absorbed over the years. It was a day very well spent, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to understand the pulse and living history of Bangalore beyond the usual sightseeing.

Why this scores 58
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bangalore.
How much does Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $299 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bangalore usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bangalore is not rushed.
Is Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bangalore, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bangalore can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bangalore and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Bengaluru's Hidden Heritage Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bangalore within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bangalore?
+
On Outty we rank every Bangalore experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bangalore city tour with English guide & multi language support, Mysore tour from Bangalore by tourism ministry approved company, Bangalore Through the Ages: Lalbagh, Temple & Market City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bangalore?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bangalore?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
