    Jose!

Jose! Wonderful guide. The market is HUGE so having a tour with someone who knows where to go to see what, was pretty nice. The section with medicinal plants, powders, tonics etc. is really cool

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for sharing your experience! We are delighted that José helped you explore Belén Market with confidence and made such a large and fascinating place easier to understand. The medicinal plants and traditional Amazonian remedies are certainly one of the most interesting parts of the market. We will be pleased to pass your kind words on to José. Thank you for choosing Yakumama Amazon Tours!

A safe and highly recommended experience in Bethlehem

The experience was very good… José accompanied us during the entire tour of Bethlehem and the truth is we felt safe from the beginning. That day we were running a little late, but Andrés helped us so we could start later without so much paperwork or complications... Before, we saw other options that were a little cheaper, but they didn't give us the same confidence. In the end we chose this one and it went excellently for us. Everything felt well organized and the tour was very authentic....We totally recommend it!!!!!!

Response from the operator: ¡Muchas gracias por compartir tu experiencia!

    Jose was an amazing guide!

Our guide was Jose and he was an absolute gem! He took us through bustling Berlen, taking the time to explain local fruits, meats, and medicinal plants we’d never seen before. We met locals and sampled alligator meat and medicinal tonics. We then took a small boat through the floating city. July is dry season, so Jose helped us imagine what it looked like in rainy season and how the local people live in such extremes. He explained traditional customs and helped us get acquainted to Iquitos on our first day in the city. He made us feel welcome and safe - our conversations were honest and funny! Notably, my partner and I are gay women and we never felt out of place with Jose as our guide. We had some trouble booking through a third party (Viator) day-of and when we messaged the whatsapp the agency sorted it out right away and we met up with Jose within minutes!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted that José made your visit to Belén both interesting and enjoyable, and helped you discover its local foods, medicinal plants, traditions and floating neighbourhoods. Creating a safe, welcoming and respectful experience for every traveller is extremely important to us. We are also pleased that our team was able to resolve the booking issue quickly. We will certainly share your kind words with José. Thank you for choosing Yakumama Amazon Tours!

Great look at the market and floating village

Great explanation and walk through a huge market, and the flooded village gave a good look at the challenging but interesting lives the people live.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. We are happy to know that you enjoyed the visit to Belén Market and the walk through the floating area. For us, it is very important to show this part of Iquitos with respect, closeness, and a real explanation of how many families live in this very special area of the Amazon. We will continue working with care and dedication so every traveler can have an authentic, safe, and well-guided experience. Thank you for trusting us, and we hope to welcome you again in Iquitos soon.

    The tour and the tour...

The tour and the tour guide was awesome. Viator failed us though!! The address and location to meet were so so of base and no support or direction. It was only because we spent 1.5 hours the day before we were able to figure this out. This was the biggest fail Viator has ever given us. The meet location is a joke. The address given does not exist and the company is located by getting over a wall on a lower walkway and climbing down 35 rickety stairs to a half sinking barge. I reached out to Viator the day before to get a zero response and tried the “contact your tour operator” to also get a 0 response. It was only due to a good set of soles from another tour operator “that truly wanted our business” we found the location. When we returned at 9am this morning the crazy stairs were all blocked off. Thankfully a also very confused guide showed up and we figured it out. Shame on you Viator for making this so difficult. You need to explain the complexity of this meeting place far better and you find it on the “Map” is no help what so ever.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for sharing your experience in such detail. We are glad to know that the tour and the guide were excellent, and we are sorry that the initial meeting location was confusing and that the response through the platform was not fast enough at that moment. In our reservations, we always provide our direct WhatsApp number, where we offer support almost 24 hours a day. When travelers have questions or want to feel more secure before the tour, they can also contact us through that channel, where Andrés and our team can help with photos, references, and meeting point details, especially one day before the activity. It is also important to mention that the meeting point is located in a tourist area of Iquitos where, on some occasions, events, street closures, or temporary changes may make access more difficult. Also, because it is a busy tourist area, we always recommend contacting only our official channels, as there may be independent guides nearby who are not part of Yakumama Amazon Tours and could create confusion. We truly appreciate your patience, and we are happy that in the end you were able to enjoy a good experience with our guide. For us, it is very important that every traveler feels supported, safe, and well informed even before the tour begins.

Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Iquitos.

How much does Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide cost?

    +

Prices start at $36 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Iquitos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Iquitos is not rushed.

Is Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Iquitos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Iquitos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Iquitos and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Belén Market & Floating City: Private Tour with a Local Guide start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Iquitos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Iquitos?

    +

On Outty we rank every Iquitos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pacaya Samiria Mystical 3 Days, 4 days 3 nights on the banks of the Amazon River, Amazing Jungle 3Days 2Nights - Amazon Wonder Expeditions. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Iquitos?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Iquitos?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
