a fun, old fashioned, way to ride along the Shichahai Lake are and also the Dum and Bell towers

we had great fun doing this for a little less than 1/2 hr. The driver didn't speak any English (probably none do). The street is very narrow and navigating your way through the maze of cars, bicycles and tourists looked tricky... also saw well built guys in their swimming trunks ready to jump into the water. They are apparently a separate tourist attraction. Separately we did also see the Dum and Bell tower Square. it was built for musical reasons but later used to announce the time (because people didn't have clocks, etc.)

    Good customer service. I...

Good customer service. I accidentally left my phone in the car at the end of the tour, but they were able to get it back to me by the end of the night. Shoutout Michael and Simon! Enjoyable tour too. Got to try some new stuff, like a rickshaw ride, and got to touch some silk worm cocoons. Also got to see a cool view from the bell tower.

    Limited Value

Only do this if you have not ridden on rickshaw before. They only go up one side of the street for about 10 mins, turn around and come back the other side . Do stop halfway back for a photo opportunity. Was $$$ for what you were offered, our driver understood little English so zero explanation of what you were seeing. Better to go explore the shops just down the road

    Great way to see Beijing

Fabulous guide, very informative and a great way to see Old Beijing. Risa was accommodating and knowledgeable, pleasure to spend the afternoon with her.

    Scammers

Terrible experience . Took us on tour then halfway through, the guide insisted we only paid half the cost. Demanded more money. When I explained we had paid the total cost, he dismissed it, and then towards the end of the tour refused to ring us back to the hotel until we agreed to pay more and then when we got to the hotel, refused to leave and followed us around until we paid additional money. This tour is a scam, do not recommend it. Stay away from this company The tour itself wasn’t good either. Took us to a pearl and tea factory and pushed us to buy products.

Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw cost?

    +

Prices start at $49 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 48 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.6/5 across 74 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw?

    +

Around 26 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Beijing Old Hutongs Tour by Rickshaw start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
