    Disappointed

The reviews for this tour were full of how the guide told local stories and gave interesting information. Unfortunately we had a stand in guide who didn’t do this at all. The areas she took us to, she left us to walk around by ourselves, whilst she stayed with the bikes. So no information was given. The tour was supposed to be three hours but we finished after two. Due to the national holiday the road to Tiananmen Square was shut and she didn’t know what else to do with us so she just took us back to the start and seemed relieved to end it there. Since then we took a different bike tour which was full of interesting information about the area and realised all the things she COULD have told us about. If you book this tour, it might be advisable to check you are getting an experienced guide. I’m sure it could be very good with the right person.

Response from the operator: Hi Teresa, Very sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the tour guide's service, during the national day holiday in China, it is really the special moment for Beijing, crowded everywhere, yes, the Tiananmen Square will be shut down and people are not permitted to go through that area. The reason why the tour guide have to stay with the bikes all the time, that is because if the tour guide left the bikes, even just walked away with you from the bikes for 2 minutes, all the bikes will be taken away by others when you get back. So wish you can understand that, about the tour guide didn't give you the local introduction of the history and stories, honest speaking, I don't think so, as a very experienced tour guide for so many years, she will never behave like that. As a bike tour, especially a private tour for only two of you, the bike tour time length will be faster to finish a little longer than 2hours, that is very possible, we will guarantee to finish all the inclusions and biking route finished rather than must be 3hours. But any way, people have different standard for the tour experience and service level, please accept my sincere apology for you. Best regards, Owen

    A different side to Beijing

The tour providers were very responsive and it was easy to arrange the tour at short notice. My guide, Dean, spoke very good English and was incredibly knowledgeable, including lots of fascinating anecdotes and details about Chinese culture and history throughout. The tour was timed to perfection: you catch beautiful golden hour cycling through Beijing's lovely parks and see the major sites lit up in the early evening. I highly recommend the tour for that reason; Beijing has a completely different character at night which should not be missed! The cycling itself was comfortable enough- Dean set me up in an appropriate bike and it felt safe cycling all around central Beijing.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your wonderful and detailed review, Emil! We're so glad Dean gave you such a memorable evening bike tour through Beijing. You've captured it perfectly — the golden hour cycling through the parks and seeing the major sites lit up at night is truly magical. Dean's knowledge of Chinese culture and history, combined with his excellent English, really brings the city to life. We appreciate the recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another ride through Beijing's beautiful streets!

    Beijing’s best.

For the experienced cyclist the local Mobikes are less than your carbon dreams. Despite that this three hour tour was fantastic and Dean was a most knowledgeable and thoughtful guide getting us around safely and easily. He even booked us on his own Uber to get us back to our hotel when we finished. We actually found cycling around Beijing much safer than Melbourne. Getting around any city on a bike is a fantastic way to get your bearings and really get a taste for local life. Highly recommended.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your fantastic review, Lbond30! We love hearing that cycling around Beijing felt even safer than Melbourne — it really is a wonderful way to explore the city and get a taste of local life. Dean always goes above and beyond for our guests, and arranging his own Uber to get you back to your hotel is a perfect example of that. We're so glad you enjoyed the three-hour tour and highly appreciate your recommendation. Hope to see you back on two wheels in Beijing!

Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Beijing Highlights-Private Beijing Bike Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
