    Great views - terrible skiing.

Very little snow; they really should have canceled this trip. The transfer from the bus to the ski shop was disorganized. As a result, we opted to just enjoy the gondolas and scenery. That was really nice. I’d recommend checking whether there is snow if that’s possible.

Response from the operator: Dear Matthew, Thank you very much for joining our Swiss Ski Experience in Bernese Oberland and rating your experience. We genuinely regret that the snow conditions on the day of your activity fell short of expectations. The ski experience is managed by our local partner in Grindelwald. To ensure the safety and quality of the experience, a specific snow level is required. In cases where the snow forecast indicates insufficient coverage, our partner closes sales, blocking the entrance of any booking. Kindly note that this is also a beginners’ class. For more experienced guests, we recommend exploring higher-altitude locations where the snow is more abundant. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a more satisfactory experience in the future. Best regards Ambika from Best of Switzerland Tours

Skip this experience, book the transport and ski lesson separately.

Viator should be listing this experience separately. The transport operator and the ski lesson operator are completely disjoint and as such I will be breaking down my review into 2 parts (a) transport operator and (b) the ski lesson operator: a) This is poorly executed poorly as the tour operator not only lumped travellers from Lucerne and Zurich together, with varying tour experiences (some are going to Jungfraujoch, others are Interlaken/Grindelwald day trippers). From our pick-up in Lucerne to Grindelwald, it took us exactly 2.5 hrs to reach Grindelwald. This is the same duration as you would if you take a train from Lucerne > Interlaken > Grindelwald. The bus journey could have just taken 1.5 hr, but the tour operator decides there is a need to take a 1-hour break in Interlaken and we are asked to explore Interlaken. For the return trip, the ski lesson travellers are required to report back to the bus at 4.30pm, as the bus needs to detour to Lauterbrunnen to pick up Jungfraujoch visitors, followed by Interlaken to pick up those Interlaken/Grindelwald day trippers. As such, this is another 2.5 hrs for the return journey as I reached Lucerne just past 7pm. b) As mentioned earlier, the ski lesson is completely disjoint from the transport operator. Upon reaching Grindelwald, we were supposed to report to the ski lesson operators on our own to pick up the ski equipment etc. This is similar to those who reported to the operators on their own. Although each instructor is limited to 8 students, IMO it still feels like too many and instructors simply don't have enough time to attend to all 8 students. It sounded like a privilege when I first booked the package, but after going through it feels too many. Perhaps limiting to 4 students would be better.

Response from the operator: Dear Martin, Thank you very much for sharing your experience of our Swiss Ski Experience package. The merging of tours allows us to not only offer tours to best-selling destinations like the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, but also to guarantee daily departures for tours with fewer bookings. With only 3 guests booked for the ski experience on your travel date, we would otherwise have had to cancel your trip. Most of our guests appreciate the sightseeing stop in Interlaken to stretch their legs, to grab a bite to eat or to buy some souvenirs before continuing to Grindelwald, which was obviously not the case for you. We are sorry to hear that you felt that 8 skiers were to much for one ski instructor. The effort per student depends very much on the composition of the group and the individual fitness levels of the participants. Nevertheless, we apologize for not providing you with the level of personal attention you expected. While is it is certainly also possible to travel to Grindelwald individually by train (return tickets from CHF 88.40 per adult) and to book private skiing lessons (CHF 290.- for 2.5 hours without equipment), many guests appreciate our tour as a convenient and hassle-free way to reach the destination and to have a professional tour guide with them to share more information about the destination and to answer any open questions. We sincerely regret that the tour did not meet your expectations and hope that you will still keep your visit to the Swiss Alps in good memory! Best regards, Amanda from Best of Switzerland Tours

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +
