About this experience
Experience an exclusive guided tour of the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, iconic landmarks of Piazza San Marco. Admire the grandeur of the Golden Staircase and stunning artworks in the Doge's Palace, and cross the Bridge of Sighs to explore the historic prisons where Casanova was held, reminiscent of Alcatraz’s mystique. Visit St. Mark's Basilica, known as the Golden Basilica, to marvel at its glittering mosaics, as dazzling as any European cathedral. Then, enjoy a virtual reality experience at the History Gallery of Venice. With a VR headset, see Piazza San Marco as it once was, imagining the Basilica as the Doge's private chapel and the Palace as a medieval fortress. Choose the St. Mark's Bell Tower option for panoramic views of Venice, much like viewing New York City from above. An elevator ride to the top offers breathtaking vistas of the domes, St. Mark's Square, and the lagoon. Enhance your visit with an audio guide and digital map for deeper insights.

This is the very bad experience in my life
I tried contacting the tour company almost 20 minutes before the scheduled time to ask if I could arrive 10 minutes late, but no one responded at all. I arrived at the meeting point only 2 minutes late. I found the sign and the tour desk there, but there was no staff present — no one at all. I tried looking around to find where the tour company's office was, and tried contacting them again, but still got no response. After about 10 minutes, a staff member finally came and told me I needed to go to their office, which was another 200 meters away. I walked there, and by the time I arrived it was almost 11 o'clock — meaning I was now about half an hour "late," through no fault of my own. When I got there, the staff spoke to me rudely and laughed in my face. When I pointed out that they hadn't responded to my messages, they said it was "normal" for them not to reply at all. I asked what I was supposed to do if I couldn't find the location, and they told me I should have called — but as a tourist using their tour, I had no way of knowing that was the procedure since no one had explained it to me beforehand. The staff member laughed at me mockingly, then called over two other colleagues who surrounded me and tried to push me out, insisting I go talk outside. They ended up calling the police as well. Everyone was shouting at me aggressively. Overwhelmed, I tore up my ticket, threw it at the staff member, and ran off crying out of humiliation.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. Please note the tour follows a fixed schedule, and all participants are required to arrive at the meeting point 10 min before the tour start time. Punctuality is essential to ensure that the experience runs smoothly for everyone. Details of the program and meeting point are clearly noted on your confirmation email and Tripadvisor listing. However, if there was any behaviour from the staff that didn't leave you satisfied, we deeply apologise for this. If you wish to communicate further with us, do not hesitate to reach out. Best regards, Customer Care Team

A good experience that could be even better
Overall a good experience. It was crowded that day but the tour still seemed a bit slow and unnecessarily drawn out. We were disappointed the Basilica tour did not include the balcony. The gap of time between the guided tour and the self guided bell tower ticket was too long. 45-60 minutes between the tour completion and the bell tower ticket felt like a long time to wait around in Piazza di San Marco. But overall we’re glad we did the tour.

Why this scores 89
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Venice.
How much does Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option cost?
+
Prices start at $36 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Venice usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Venice is not rushed.
Is Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 89 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 681 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Venice, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option?
+
Around 238 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Venice can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Venice and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Basilica, Doge's Palace, History Gallery & Bell Tower Option start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Venice within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Venice?
+
On Outty we rank every Venice experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pasta and Tiramisu Cooking Class with Wine in Venice, Eating Venice Small Group Food & Drinks Tour, Venice Bacaro Food Tour: Eat and Drink like a Venetian. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Venice?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Venice?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
