The highlight of our vacation
What an unexpected surprise! This tour was actually the highlight of our 12 day Mediterranean cruise we took in October. We were picked up directly at the cruise terminal in Barcelona. We then drove with Robert, our guide about an hour to Monserrat and learned so much about the area and it's history - all super interesting. Robert was so knowledgeable about this area and the recommendations for things to do in Monserrat to make our experience the best. We took a funicular up to the top of Monserrat and did some hiking up the mountain. These hikes are on loose stones/gravel and moderately strenuous uphill climb. But certainly do-able for most people. Perhaps you would avoid if you are very afraid of heights or have mobility issues, but a great experience for us. Robert recommended we bring up our lunch (our purchase, but very affordable) and it was a beautiful location to do so! It's a good idea to make sure you have water for your hike. We came down and were in time to meet Robert and get entrance to see the boys choir perform in the basilica. Tickets for this were included. It was very crowded, but Robert made sure we got excellent seats to view the choir. We then saw the black Madonna (also included). After a great morning and early afternoon in Monserrat we were off to the Cava wine district to the home of Martha and the Mas Comtal winery. What a surreal experience to sit in her backyard overlooking the vineyard in the days fading light - amazing! We learned so much about the region, the history, and making of the Cava wines; and of course were able to sample wonderful wines. The wines and the company truly made this a memory we will never forget. It was like we were enjoying an early evening with friends. We simply cannot recommend this experience enough.

We had a good time!
We had an excellent time with our tour guide Pablo! He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Montserrat was an interesting place to visit, very different from other places. We took the Saint Juan cablecar to the top of the mountain and walked down. Unfortunately we did not have the correct footwear. Sandals are not recommended. We also saw the black Madonna. On the way back we visited a winery where we tasted some good cava and wines. Thanks for a nice trip! 💫

Intimate group that lets you wonder
This was one of those tours where you felt like you had a front row seat. We were fortunate to have a very eclectic group of people from all over the world. Everyone was courteous. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. But the highlight for me was seeing the Black Virgin and then riding a train down in the caverns under the Cava vineyards.

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Barcelona.
How much does Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting cost?
+
Prices start at $112 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Barcelona usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Barcelona is not rushed.
Is Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Barcelona, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 8-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Barcelona can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Barcelona and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Barcelona Shore Private Excursion: Montserrat and Cava Tasting start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Barcelona within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Barcelona?
+
Barcelona's Gaudí sites are capacity-limited and the official timed tickets go first, so most of the market is resellers with a guide attached. We weight those heavily on whether the guide is an architecture specialist. Beyond Gaudí, the tapas crawls in Gràcia and the Montserrat day trips carry the highest rankings in the city. On Outty we rank every Barcelona experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Gràcia Tapas and Vermouth Crawl, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel & Cliff Jump from Barcelona, Costa Brava Tour: Kayak, Snorkel, Cliff Jump & lunch Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Barcelona?
+
May, June, September and October. Sagrada Família light is best mid-morning. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Barcelona?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
