The Jim Thompson House Museum was once the residence of the late James H.W. Thompson, the American entrepreneur credited with reviving Thailand’s silk industry and internationally recognized as the “Silk King.” Built in 1958, the property comprises six traditional Thai houses sourced and relocated from across Thailand by Jim Thompson in the 1950s and reassembled along the Saen Saep Canal, opposite the Ban Krua weaving community. Designed to showcase Thompson’s growing collection of Asian art and antiques, the house reflects his deep appreciation for Thai architecture and craftsmanship. Following his mysterious disappearance in 1967, the compound was transformed into a museum housing his personal collection of Southeast Asian art and antiques. Today, the Jim Thompson House Museum is regarded as one of Bangkok’s most important cultural landmarks, known for its distinctive architecture, lush gardens, and extensive collection of Asian art and artifacts.

Incredible Property with a Fascinating History
While this was not a tour I would have thought to take, I was encouraged to do so by family and friends and I am glad I did. Layla was our English speaking guide and she was friendly and informative as she led us around the beautiful compound comprised of an incredible garden and historic houses filled with rare Thai historical artifacts. Add to that Jim Thompson's interesting life story and you have a tour well worth the price of admission!
Response from the operator: Thank you for visiting the Jim Thompson House Museum. We will notify your guide of this pleasure and look forward to welcoming you again.

Superb
Mr. Thompson's story is very interesting. Guided tour in French during a reserved time slot. The explanations are perfect. The locations and the state of preservation are incredible. To get there, we used the boat on the Khlongs. It’s a place to visit!

Really Enjoyed It.
We have been to Bangkok many times but have never got around to visiting this before. We had a spare morning so decided to give it a go. I was really pleased we went and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. You can just turn up and book on arrival you don’t need to go through an against and at 250 Bhat it is very reasonable. An English speaking tour guide is included in the price. The house and tour were fascinating with some beautiful exhibits. There is a shop here but it is very expensive.
Response from the operator: It is our pleasure to welcome you at the Jim Thompson House Museum. We look forward to your visits again.
