What you'll see and do
Kananaskis Country
Alright, picture this—you and your crew, road-tripping through some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes in Canada. As you cruise west, the mountains rise around you like nature's skyscrapers, their rugged cliffs looking like something straight out of an adventure film. The air is crisp, the vibe is electric, and you can practically feel the wild calling. The road winds past forests so dense they seem to whisper secrets, and then—boom!—the Bow River appears, snaking through the valley like liquid sapphire. Depending on the season, you might catch patches of snow clinging to the peaks or wildflowers adding pops of color along the roadside. Keep your eyes peeled—this is prime wildlife territory. Spotting a deer? Nice. A bighorn sheep? Even better. An elk casually minding its business? Now, that’s a flex. Of course, we'll do a photo stop if you like!
Pass by without stopping
And just when you think the views couldn’t possibly get any better, Canmore appears on the horizon — a charming mountain town framed by the iconic Three Sisters peaks standing proudly in the background. Before rolling deeper into the Rockies, you’ll pause here for a relaxed coffee stop, the perfect moment to stretch your legs, breathe in that crisp alpine air, and soak in the scenery. Keep those cameras close, because this stretch is pure cinematic magic.

Lake Louise
it’s the moment the Rockies reveal their soul. This world‑famous lake feels almost unreal when you first see it! In summer, the lake glows with an almost unreal turquoise, fed by glacial melt that shimmers under the sun. Canoes glide across the water like tiny brushstrokes on a vast canvas, and the surrounding peaks rise sharply against a deep blue sky. Wildflowers bloom along the shoreline, and every step reveals a new angle, a new colour, a new moment worth capturing. It’s vibrant, warm, and full of life — the Rockies at their most iconic. In winter, Lake Louise becomes a quiet, snow‑covered wonderland. The turquoise freezes into a smooth, glassy surface perfect for skating, while the Victoria Glacier towers above like a frozen cathedral. Snow‑dusted pines, crisp mountain air, and the soft crunch of fresh powder create a sense of peace that feels almost otherworldly. Whether you’re walking the shoreline, sipping a hot drink, or simply taking in the silence, winter feels magical!

Banff Avenue
Banff has a way of capturing people long before they even reach the mountains — but once you step onto Banff Avenue, the spell is complete. This little alpine town feels like it was designed to charm, inspire, and tempt you into staying just a little longer. In winter, Banff becomes a glowing snow‑globe village. Banff Avenue twinkles with warm lights on fresh snow, hot‑chocolate aromas drift from cafés, and the peaks rise like a painted backdrop. Cozy shops, fireplaces, and festive energy make downtown feel alive — a place to wander, sip something warm, and watch snowflakes fall. In summer, Banff turns into the beating heart of the hiking world. Trail maps unfold on café tables, boots tap on patios, and adventure fills the air. Minutes from iconic trails and turquoise lakes, downtown becomes a lively hub of patios, ice‑cream shops, breweries, and mountain‑view restaurants — the perfect place to unwind after a day outdoors.

A brief stop at Two Jack Lake feels like stepping into a postcard. Its calm, mirror‑like surface reflects the surrounding peaks so perfectly that you’ll want to pause, breathe, and take it all in. In summer, the water glows with deep blues and greens, framed by wildflowers and towering pines. In winter, the lake transforms into a serene frozen canvas, where silence and snow create a peaceful, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Just minutes away, Lake Minnewanka offers a grander, more dramatic scene. This vast glacial lake stretches between rugged cliffs and rolling forests, a place where wind, water, and mountains meet in spectacular harmony. Summer brings sparkling waves, boat tours, and sweeping views, while winter reveals icy shorelines, frosted trees, and a sense of untouched wilderness. Together, these two lakes offer a perfect taste of Banff’s beauty — quick stops that leave a lasting impression and make your journey feel truly special.

We love Banff Day Trips
Our experience with Banff Day Trips was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived until our final adventure, every detail was flawlessly organized, allowing us to simply relax and enjoy one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Our journey to the Columbia Icefields was breathtaking. Every stop along the way felt like a postcard, with turquoise lakes, towering mountains, glaciers, and wildlife around every corner. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating history, geology, and local stories that made the scenery even more meaningful. But the adventure didn’t stop there! We also went whitewater rafting, which was an absolute thrill—exciting, safe, and so much fun. Our helicopter tour was truly unforgettable, giving us a once-in-a-lifetime perspective of Banff’s incredible peaks, glaciers, and valleys. Horseback riding through the mountains felt like stepping into a movie, and the hiking trails they recommended showcased some of the most stunning scenery we’ve ever experienced. What impressed us most was how Banff Day Trips seamlessly combined adventure, sightseeing, and personal service. Every activity was perfectly coordinated, and the team genuinely cared that we had the best possible experience. They were friendly, professional, flexible, and passionate about sharing the beauty of the Canadian Rockies. If you’re planning a trip to Banff, don’t hesitate to book with Banff Day Trips. They turned what would have been an amazing vacation into an extraordinary, unforgettable adventure. We came home with incredible memories, breathtaking photos, and a strong desire to come back again. Five stars simply aren’t enough!

We’re grateful for your kind words about our team and coordination, and we truly appreciate your recommendation. We’d love to welcome you back whenever you’re ready for another adventure.

Best private tour of Banff Lakes, rivers and mountains
We arranged a private tour through Banff Day Trips, arranging the tour was so easy, Kevin was amazing and tailored the entire day to help us get the most out of the Banff area. Our minivan was very comfortable and Murray our tour guide was excellent, knew his stuff about the area. Murray was happy to help with photos and give us guidance on best place to get those memory shots. There was flexibility around the day and we added in the most exceptional waterfalls at Takakkaw Falls. Murray provided guidance on other things we could do in the area which was really helpful. We would highly recommend the private tour if you want to that flexibility in your day. We had a ball with Murray and if you are lucky enough to have him host your tour you will have a great time. Shout out to Gordon for taking us on the Morraine and Louise Lakes (due to parking restrictions) but again change over before hooking up with Murray again seamless. Thank you to the Team @banffdaytrips we had an amazing day thankyou.

Fun and amazing experience off the bucket list
Kevin was amazing. From pick up to drop off after a fun filled day and stories in between, you are in for quite an adventure. We’re both seniors and slow so we had the choice to remain within our drop off to have coffee and window shop while Kevin and the younger ones took a hike. We saw some wildlife ie wild horses, deer, elk, mountain sheep, etc. The bears were uncooperative today but our experience was more than enough to compensate. Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise was amazing. Next time we’ll bring the whole family along! We highly recommend Banff Day Tours and Kevin! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for being such great guests on this fun day! We can wait to see you again and create new memories with your loved ones.

Thanks Rick, great tour!
Great tour by Rick, our driver, who was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and funny to go with it. We had a private minibus for 10 of us, when to Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Bow Valley Parkway, and a few other viewpoints and lakes. Best way to get around and see a lot of places without worrying about driving, parking, permits etc, and some roads are closed to private cars. Only downside is you fit so much in that time can be limited in any particular place, but that's the trade-off if you want to cover it in a day.

Banff Day Trips
Banff Day Trips was outstanding. Our family of 9 was in the Banff area for a week. We set a one day private tour up with Kevin who was great to work with. Our tour guide, Murray, who was also great, picked us up at our door at 9:30 AM near Ghost Lake, Alberta and we visited Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Norquay (with chairlift ride). We picked up lunch at a deli in Canmore for the trip. Murray gave us all the time we needed at each location without rushing. Arrived back at the home we were renting for the week at 6:30 PM. We had planned to also stop at Johnston Canyon last, but were too pooped. Visited there on our own a few days later.

Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Calgary.
How much does Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics cost?
+
Prices start at $287 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Calgary usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Calgary is not rushed.
Is Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Calgary, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Calgary can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Calgary and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Banff Private Tour - Beyond the basics start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Calgary within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Calgary?
+
On Outty we rank every Calgary experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Explore Banff National Park Premium Day Trip, Discover Banff National Park - Premium Day Trip, Day of Dinosaurs & Hoodoos from Calgary to Drumheller Badlands. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Calgary?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Calgary?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
