Bring home something special

This was one of our favorite activities in Japan. Our hotel in Tokyo had a garden lit up with "bamboo" lanterns so it was exciting to get to make our own. It was easy, didn't take long, and we brought something special home from Kyoto. We have shared our keepsake with others once we got home, and they think they are awesome! There are lots of patterns to choose from in a book with varying levels of difficulty. The owner of the shop assists in changing out the drill bits for the different patterns.

Wonderful Experience

We loved every second of this experience. We’re a family of four with kids aged 9 and 11, and it ended up being a favourite day of the trip. Nori met us at the train station and walked with us to the workshop through the bamboo forest in Arashiyama. Some parts were busy, but others were incredibly peaceful and quiet, we got some beautiful photos along the way. We also passed through lovely neighbourhoods, and during the walk she shared so much about Japan, its history, the bamboo, local plants, and anything else we asked about. She is incredibly knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The workshop itself was so much fun. Nori was patient and encouraging, especially with the kids. One chose a very detailed design and the other created his own, and she guided both of them with clear explanations and genuine care. She made the whole process feel relaxed and enjoyable. We left with beautiful lanterns that make the best souvenirs. Nori is kind, thoughtful, and deeply knowledgeable. We are all so glad we chose this experience — truly 10/10 from our whole family.

This was a great...

This was a great activity, and considering you get to take the bamboo lamps home, it's a wonderful souvenir to put some little lights inside for mood lighting. We took our 13 year-old daughter, who was able to work the machines herself after just a bit of instruction. They provide paper patterns, but you can be as creative as you want with your design.

Bamboo Time

We met at the train station and the proceeded to walk through the Bamboo Forest. Noriko was very knowledgeable and took the time to tell us all about it. Once we got to her work shop she explained everything to us. We all had a great time. I would definitely recommend this to all my friends.

An unusual activity but so fun, and an amazing souvenir to take back home. Thank you for the workshop.

Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.

How much does Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama cost?

+

Prices start at $6000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.

Is Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 40 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 3-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama?

+

Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Bamboo LED Lantern Making Experience in Kyoto Arashiyama start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?

+

On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
