About this experience
For all of you who want to see more than the usual sights, or for those who are eager to find out what socialism and communism was all about, we've designed the tour to New Zagreb: Back to Socialism tour. Crossing over the river Sava, you'll be entering completely different scenery, discovering a very complex side of Zagreb that is not visited by tourists ever. Here you'll get to see the development of our city since the Post-World War II era, mainly through that "mystical" time of communism, and see how it breathes today as it remains the main housing area of Zagreb. New Zagreb is currently also a cradle of a very vivacious Croatian contemporary art scene.

Excellent exposure to new...
Excellent exposure to new Zagreb and modern life near the city with socialist architecture also. You get to see the river, which is not close to old Zagreb.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing a different side of Zagreb beyond the historic center. The newer neighborhoods, socialist-era architecture, and the Sava River are all important parts of the city's story, yet many visitors never get the chance to experience them. Thank you for joining our tour, and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Zagreb! Sincerely, Alida

A great way to explore new Zagreb - thank you, Alida!
Had a great Back to Socialism ride with Alida - a really good opportunity to see parts of (new) Zagreb you wouldn’t otherwise see (and learning about them along the way). Plus cycling around the - parks, fountains and monuments - in the older part of town. Alida is engaging and kept everything fresh and interesting and the time flew by. The bikes are sturdy and comfortable, with seat height adjusted for you. Helmets are provided. I love old Zagreb - but it’s good also to cycle out of it and explore a different part of Croatia’s capital . And this tour provided exactly that opportunity!
Response from the operator: Dear Amanda, Thank you for such a wonderful review! I’m so glad you enjoyed discovering a different side of Zagreb. The contrast between the historic center and New Zagreb tells an important part of the city’s story, and it’s always rewarding to share it with curious travelers. I’m especially happy that the time flew by and that you found the ride comfortable and engaging. Thank you for joining the tour and for appreciating both the old and the new faces of Croatia’s capital. It was a pleasure cycling with you! Best regards, Alida

Fantastic Bike Tour to New Zagreb
We went the back to Socialism Tour. Alida created a fantastic bike tour for my girlfiend and me. She adapted the tour when we told her what we had already seen in historical Zagreb to include som things of old Zagreb which we had not seen yet. Alida is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She created an unforgettable experience for us. We crossed the river Sava by bike and went to explore New Zagreb, where lots of Zagrebans live. Many quarters date back to Tito’s times. Extremely interesting tour. The best thing we did during our 3 days stay in Zagreb!
Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind words! I’m so glad you recognized the charm of New Zagreb. It’s a part of the city I really love, and I believe it deserves to be shared with a wider audience. Best regards,

Explore beyond the tourist centre and learn a little about what living in Zagreb is like
I learnt so much about Zagreb that I wouldn't have if I stayed within the old town or explored Novi Zagreb on my own. Thank you, Alida!
Response from the operator: It was my honest pleasure, dear Amelia! Thank you!

Why this scores 80
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Back to Socialism Bike Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zagreb.
How much does Back to Socialism Bike Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zagreb usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Back to Socialism Bike Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zagreb is not rushed.
Is Back to Socialism Bike Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 51 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Zagreb, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Back to Socialism Bike Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Back to Socialism Bike Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Back to Socialism Bike Tour?
+
Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zagreb can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zagreb and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Back to Socialism Bike Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zagreb within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Zagreb?
+
On Outty we rank every Zagreb experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communism & Croatian Homeland War Tour, Zagreb Highlights: Old Town, WWII tunnels, Funicular & Tastings, Old Zagreb Private Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Zagreb?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Zagreb?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
