Great fun for whole family to get involved.
Really lovely experience. Booked as an extra activity on our Intrepid Family tour while we were in Chiang Mai and we were lucky enough to be able to book for the same day. The whole family got involved- my 11 year old did all his own cooking and my 7 year old helped me - he was half price and still got a lot of lovely food at the end! Created a whole banquet together! My 11 year old loved checking out the market first to buy the ingredients we needed. Gorgeous recipe book given to us all at the end of the session too. Our cook was patient and kind and had lots of good swapping tips for us in case we couldn’t find some of the ingredients at home. I’m vegan and I was catered for separately and really nicely so I could have a chance to make everything too! A really great evening. Covered and airy kitchen but no AC so just make sure you plan for that.
Response from the operator: Dear jennifermC6184LI, Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely review of your family’s cooking experience in Chiang Mai! We are thrilled that everyone, from your 7-year-old to your 11-year-old, was able to get involved in creating your family 'banquet.' It’s wonderful to hear that our chef’s patience and the market visit made the day so special. We also take great pride in ensuring our vegan guests have a fantastic, inclusive experience, so we're glad you felt well-catered for. We hope those recipe books bring a taste of Thailand to your kitchen back home! Best regards, Nick (IAsia Thailand Online)

The best cooking class ever!!!

Fun, Hands on experience
Ae did a wonderful job of explaining the various local ingredients to us and how they fit into the dishes. We learned that several of the ingredients are actually flavour ingredients only and are removed from the dish prior to eating. Overall a very good and authentic experience
Response from the operator: Dear 181RobertC, Thank you for sharing your experience at the Baan Hongnual Cookery Session and Market Visit. We’re delighted to hear that Ae provided insightful explanations about the local ingredients and their role in Thai cuisine. It’s always fascinating to learn the finer details of authentic cooking, such as the use of certain ingredients for flavor rather than consumption. We’re so pleased that you had an enjoyable and authentic experience. Your feedback is truly appreciated, and we hope to welcome you again for another culinary adventure! Best regards, Nick (IAsia Thailand Online)

Highly Recommend!
We were really looking forward to our session. It did not disappoint. We had an enjoyable visit to the market where we purchased the ingredients necessary to cook the dishes we had selected. We then drive 15 or 20 minutes to the cooking school location south of Chiang Mai. The pace was just about right. The instructor was excellent and the food was relatively easy to make. When it was all done we sat down to a tasty meal of spring rolls, kao soi, vegetables and sticky rice with mango. It was a fun and tasty morning in Chiang Mai.
Response from the operator: Hello John, We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your experience at Baan Hongnual Cookery Session and Market Visit with Lunch! Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback. We strive to provide memorable culinary experiences, and we are delighted that we could exceed your expectations. We look forward to welcoming you back for another delicious adventure soon! Regards. Nick

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chiang Mai.
How much does Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience cost?
+
Prices start at $47 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chiang Mai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chiang Mai is not rushed.
Is Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chiang Mai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chiang Mai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chiang Mai and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Baan Hongnual: Authentic Thai Cooking & Market Experience start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chiang Mai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chiang Mai?
+
On Outty we rank every Chiang Mai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Thai Cooking Class at Organic Farm in Chiang Mai, Full Day Thai Cooking at Farm (Chiang Mai), Thai and Akha Cooking Class in Chiang Mai. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chiang Mai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
