Discovering Beijing’s Cuisines with a Great Guide

We came from Poland (Europe) and had an amazing Hutong food and beer tour with Adam! Adam from Catherine Lu tour group was a wonderful guide who took me and my friend to several restaurants in Beijing, where he introduced us to different Chinese and Beijing cuisines. We were able to try Manchu, Beijing, Mongolian, Muslim, and Khitan dishes, and he explained their history and traditions in an engaging way. Highly recommended!

Old Beijing Hutong Food & Beer Tour

My husband and I, along with another couple, booked the Old Beijing Hutong Food & Beer Tour on August 31st and had a fantastic experience. Our guide, Adam, was excellent—knowledgeable about the area's history and culture, and made the tour both engaging and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in exploring the Hutong while enjoying a great variety of food and drinks.

    Hutong Banquet in Beijing

We had an amazing time on the Hutong Food Tour with Adam, covering a huge range of ethnic cuisines and colors of flavor. One price gets you a LOT of food--I might recommend skipping lunch altogether that day in preparation (lol). This was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of my family's summer travels through China. We would never have found these little out-of-the-way dining gems on our own. Thanks to Adam for his careful research and to Catherine Lu Tours.

    Amazing food!

This tour was our last one right before we had to leave for the airport. Our tour guide was James. He took us on the subway for a breakfast walking food tour. We went to about 5 restaurants, maybe even 6. He already had it all planned and had our food ordered pretty quickly. The food was amazing and very good. Even though we only had a short amount of time due to the fact that we had to leave for the airport, he still managed to have us taste so many amazing breakfast dishes. A good end to our China trip. Thank you again James for our amazing time in China.

    A Delicious Experience!

If you love trying new and interesting foods, you must experience this local food tour! Due to our schedule, we could only make this happen for breakfast - not your normal food tour timing - but it was incredible to go on this culinary journey tailored by Catherine Lu Tours for our needs. Our guide, James, was great! Navigating the local restaurants, especially during the morning hours, James handled it with ease and expertise. He was incredibly helpful in guiding us through each eatery, ensuring we tried all kinds of new and exciting foods we wouldn't have discovered on our own. James's knowledge truly shone as he provided tons of fascinating insight into the local food and drinks. Every dish was a surprise, and we savored every moment of trying authentic Beijing flavors.

Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $30 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 49 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour?

    +

Around 17 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Authentic Old Beijing Hutong Food and Beer Private Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
