Tawharanui Kiwi Spotting tour.
An exceptional experience from start to finish. Our guide, Andy, was knowledgeable, engaging and passionate, while Vanessa's specialist insights added another layer to an already outstanding evening. Seeing wild kiwi in their natural habitat was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by the team's professionalism, enthusiasm and genuine passion for conservation and the environment. I would highly recommend Auckland & Beyond Tours to anyone looking for a premium, expertly guided nature experience in Auckland.

Aden knows his stuff.
Aden was a wonderful guide and really enjoyed our conversations with him. What really stood out was his amazing expertise when it came to the focus of the trip. We saw FOUR kiwis and more. There seemed to be nothing he didn’t know about the NZ natural environment.

Amazing tour near Auckland
Peter and Aiden our guides were fantastic! They were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They arrived on time at our hotel and whisked us away to Matakana, a cute artsy town, for dinner. Dinner is big portions so I feel like you get your money's worth. We then went on our kiwi hike and it exceeded expectations. We saw four kiwis, two from far and two from very close. Aiden is a bird expert and can hear them coming and point them out for you. We also saw plenty of other native birds and the famous New Zealand weta bug. On our hike back to the car we were lucky we saw shooting stars AND bioluminescence on the nearby beach. We honestly were stunned at how beautiful New Zealand is at night. I highly recommend this tour.

More than a tour, an unforgettable experience ❤️
This was more than just a tour, it was a beautiful experience my brother and I will never forget. We were picked up on time in super comfortable van. On the way to Tawharanui, Andy and Aiden shared a lot of interesting facts about New Zealand and the wildlife we were about to see..Thanks so much for that! ❤️ Dinner at Matakana Market Kitchen was amazing ! Delicious food and very generous portions, staff really friendly too. The night walk to spot kiwis was simply magical. Walking under the stars, listening to the forest, and learning about every bird and sound from Aiden made it so special. Stopping halfway for hot chocolate was a lovely touch. And then …the highlight … we spotted not one but two male kiwis! Such an emotional and unforgettable moment… Back at the van, we were welcomed with bubbles to celebrate🍾 Seven hours flew by, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for better guides or a better experience. Thank you, Andy and Aiden, for making this night truly unforgettable
Response from the operator: Kia ora and thank you so much for your heartfelt review! 🌿✨ We’re absolutely thrilled to hear how unforgettable your Twilight Wild Kiwi Encounter was. Andy and Aiden will be overjoyed to know their knowledge, care, and storytelling made the journey so special for you and your brother. From the warm welcome in our van, to the shared dinner at Matakana, the starry forest walk with hot chocolate, and the magical moment of seeing not one but two wild kiwi — it’s wonderful to know each part of the evening left a lasting impression. 🥂 Your words capture the very essence of what we hope every guest experiences: connection with our wildlife, our whenua, and our people. Ngā mihi nui for sharing this beautiful feedback, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon. Haere pai atu, hoki pai mai – travel safely, return safely.

Why this scores 58
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.
How much does Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $575 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour take?
+
Plan for about 6.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.
Is Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 6.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Auckland: Private Twilight Wild Kiwi Bird Encounter Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Auckland?
+
On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Auckland?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Auckland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
