Overrated an emphatic
Guide was nice but the tour lame, I saw all the same lights walking to the Merton spot from the viaduct
Response from the operator: Thanks for the feedback! We’re a little puzzled by this one, as we can’t find a record of your booking and we haven’t actually run this tour during August. If you could get in touch and let us know which date you joined us, we’d love to get to the bottom of it. We’ll also have to respectfully disagree that you can see it all with a stroll along the waterfront 😉 There’s plenty more to the experience, including limited-access spaces around the Viaduct and Wynyard precincts, as well as exploring the Maritime Museum precinct from the water after dark – areas you simply can’t access as a pedestrian. Reach out to us directly – we’d love to discuss your experience and understand more so we can rectify. All the best.

Incredibly Memorable Tour
My experience with Auckland Sea Kayaks was wonderful! Jules was a super nice tour guide that really knew lots of interesting information. I feel like the tour was the perfect amount of time on the water. There were only four other people besides myself, so we were able to ask questions and Jules was very personable with each of us. Unfortunately, when I went it was rainy and foggy, so we didn't have the best view of the city. But it was still loads of fun given the circumstances! We had a nice snack of tea and biscuits on the kayaks. My boat did fill up with water a bit, but it was no problem as we were able to quickly pump water out since Jules came super prepared with a water pump! Definitely would recommend trying this out. I can only imagine what the city lights tour is like on a clear day!
Response from the operator: Thanks for taking the time to leave a detailed review, and glad you enjoyed your tour with Jules. We will pass on your kind feedback. All the best.

Night kayaking for the win!
Joules was a fun and very informative guide. There were 5 guests and we paddled between different marinas. We encountered a little bit of rain, but it did not deter our experience. She even brought hot tea and brownies for our break on the water! I would recommend it. We are in our 70’s and others were in their 20’s. We all enjoyed it!
Response from the operator: Glad to hear the tour was enjoyable to a vast group of ages :) Thanks for coming paddling with Auckland Sea Kayaks.

Auckland gem!
I bought my partner a birthday voucher for the City Lights Night Tour and we had the best time. Our guide, Marco, was so knowledgeable and friendly and took some great photos for us. The sunset was stunning and we got to see so many interesting things. Can’t recommend this highly enough.
Response from the operator: Glad we delivered an epic birthday experience. Thanks for coming paddling with us.

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.
How much does Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $145 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.
Is Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 27 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2.5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Auckland City Lights Night Kayaking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Auckland?
+
On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Auckland?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Auckland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
