About this experience
How did the "cradle of democracy" turn into "Europe's basket case"? Although the question is blunt and unpleasant, it reflects the essence of much global thinking in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. From the founding of the Greek state until the present times, this experience illustrates both social and political aspects of Greece. It is aimed at individuals who have an interest in politics and who want to undertake first-hand research to understand more about the situation of the country. A Political Scientist will lead you into a comprehensive analysis, providing surprising answers. You'll be able to discuss both historical and current events from a fair and non-biased perspective to help you form your own opinions. This walk is designed to resemble a documentary in terms of pace and information density. In the end, you will receive a slideshow with photos and extra info on the issues discussed during the experience.

We are not an expert in...
We are not an expert in political science/sociology and could not understand Isaac fully but it is always great to learn new things when we visit new places. You will at least find out the root cause of weak Greek economy is not lazy people by the end of the tour. Actually I found many people are hard working during our 12-day stay in Greece this time. I will definitely book his another tour when I visit Athens next time!

Insightful, funny, and informative tour!
Isaac gave us a wonderful, deeply informed and interesting tour of the relatively recent social and political history of Athens (and Greece more generally). Told in the form of 3 “series”, the tour really gave context and insight into the tangled and internally complex politics of the area. He was funny, responsive to questions, and considerate. Totally recommend!

Excellent Introduction to Modern Greek Society and Politics
Fantastic tour. Isaac is knowledgeable, funny, and most of all, he has a natural knack for being a guide. We learned a great deal from this and enjoyed the experience. This was our first time in Greece. I don't know what other walking tours offer, but I suspect Isaac's walking tours are unique in their emphasis on understanding modern Greek society and politics. If you're looking for a walking tour of the usual tourist attractions in Athens - and to be clear, these "usual" tourist attractions, like the Acropolis etc., are amazing in their own right and absolutely live up to their fame - this probably isn't the tour for you. But if you're looking, as we did, to get a better sense of contemporary Athens, its dynamic urban vibe, and the way politics is uniquely visible and present in its streets, then this is the right tour. Great experience, great guide.

Excellent - very informative , well planned walk
Isaac opened our minds to the Greece beyond the “tourism Disneyland”. His walking tour was informative and well planned. I have such a better insight into the past and current issues and it helped me make sense of what I was observing. Highly recommend

Why this scores 77
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Athens Social and Political Walk: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does Athens Social and Political Walk cost?
+
Prices start at $28 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Athens Social and Political Walk take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is Athens Social and Political Walk worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 38 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Athens Social and Political Walk?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Athens Social and Political Walk suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Athens Social and Political Walk?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Athens Social and Political Walk start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
